My little boy is 13 months old, hes pretty much been an ok sleeper since 9 months, however the last week he's been trying to be up at 5am, I've been going in and he's sat up in his cot chatting away :(
I wondered if it was the clocks as he used to be up 6am/6.30am but dont see hoebas his naps are at same times as is bath and bed. His naps are also now w fight as he can be falling asleep downstairs put him in his cot and its oftrn a 15min trial to get him down. He has 2 naps one at 9ish one about 1pm im keeping these times despite him now waking an hour earlier?
any tips?
cheers

No real tips but my DS tends to go through brief periods when he does this (ie wakes an hour or so earlier for no discernable reason). He'd then go back to "normal" just when I thought I couldn't take any more 5am starts!! He's much better now he is older. So I suppose my advice is - ride it out and go to bed earlier yourself in the meantime? Hope it improves for you soon.

LittleRobots · 01/11/2013 06:36

My 22 month old is the same. Normally wakes 6ish and now its 5. 5 is wrong.

She still has her nap after lunch and goes to bed at 7, so she's losing an hours sleep every day since the change :-( and I'm shattered.

headoverheels · 01/11/2013 06:44

My 4yo is the same too. I think it must be related to the clock change - it's too much of a coincidence otherwise. Am hoping he'll figure out the new time soon!

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/11/2013 08:43

Yep, it's the clock change, it has affected my 2 and 3 year olds as well.
I would look at dropping a nap if he is fighting them though, mine both dropped one at around the same age.

slightlyroundthebend · 01/11/2013 11:20

Urgh its torture. Thought about dropping a nap but he's not ready he cant quite make it through. Im hoping hes back to normal soon haha

clocks.

or Halloween (more likely)

misselphaba · 01/11/2013 15:20

Mines been waking an hour earlier since the clocks went back despite everything else being at the same time, as has my friends 5 yr old so I'm wondering when they grow out if it!

showtunesgirl · 01/11/2013 15:22

OP, maybe your DS is ready to go to one nap a day? Early waking usually suggest that his first nap is too near his wake up time.

omama · 01/11/2013 18:48

Agree with showtune re first nap prob being too early now. If he cant quite last til lunchtime yet, for the time being, perhaps try pushing the morning nap slowly back by 5-10mins every few days til it starts no earlier than 9.30am.hth

Listen to omama for she is the Sleep Guru.

Between her and tiktok on the BF forum, they sorted everything out. Smile

Cool right, ill try pushing his nap back its gard though when he's up at 5am 9am is pushing him at the mo but I'll give it a try tomorrow. Do I then let him nap again 2ish?
cheers guys x

haha showtunes I wouldn't quite say 'Guru'! Just my ds was an early waker & nothing worked til we pushed the nap later.

OP - sorry this is probably a bit late, but I'd just aim to shift the afternoon nap back alongside his morning one i.e. if morning nap is 10mins later, do afternoon nap 10mins later too, all the time watching him for tired signs incase he needs to go at the usual time. hth.
