well we've bit the bullet, after 6 months of disturbed nights we're doing CC.

Two nights in and both nights he threw a temper tantrum when he realised I wasn't staying with him unitl he fell asleep. He DID fall asleep within 40 mins though, and last night he stirred but didn't wake at all!

So here's what we're doing in case there's any tips;
he is 15 months old
slept in own room since 3 weeks old
slept 11-7 at 12 weeks
slept 7-7 at 16 weeks
ill at 21 weeks and only about 10 nights of sleeping through since then.
2 months ago started gradual withdrawal and weaning of his sleep associations of milk/cuddle to sleep.
Then last week we realised he was triyng it on, why? becasue he would have a temper fit (and I can tell the difference between unhappy and temper) and then lie down and giggle at you if you went over to him!
He needs to learn to go to sleep on his own and to sleep 7-6am again!

he wakes about 6am (this is fine)
lunchtime nap 12-2 or 12.30-2.30 (has to be 2 hrs, any more than that and he cuts back at night - ie 2 1/2 hours at lunch means 10-10 1/2hrs at night.)
bathtime 6.15ish
get ready for bed 6.30pm,
aim to be asleep by 7pm

so he has 13 hours in total.

Do it do it do it!
CC worked for us and I'll support anyone who's trying it. Just stick to a plan and BE CONSISTANT!
Good luck.

Am considerring doing it too. Similar pattern as you. When you do it, how long do you stay for (even if he doesn't stop crying)?

MamaG · 09/07/2006 08:42

sounds reasonable, keep at it - my DS cracked it in a week and he was TERRIBLE

springerspaniel · 09/07/2006 19:38

Sorry to ask again but was going to try it tonight. How long do you stay in the room for when you go in, assuming he is still crying?

MamaG · 09/07/2006 23:10

Sorry just seen this - I would go in, not make eye contact, lay down, put dummy in, fave blanket etc and leave - about a minute! If I stayed too long it gave him false hope.

Hope you are doing ok

springerspaniel · 10/07/2006 19:17

Hmm. That's what I thought. Think I'm messing up. I've been putting him down, saying night night and leaving immediately. He then screams. I stay out for 4 minutes and then go in. I then stay as long as he is calm and lying down. If he gets up, I say lie down and if he really won't, I leave again. Shit - I guess I am teaching him that if he cries, I'll come back? Do you think I'm doing it wrong?

Shit. It's rather hard!! I just can't imagine it getting better.

loopyredangel · 10/07/2006 23:03

We did it recently and now he goes down to sleep very easily! Stil lhave the problem of waking at about 5ish though!

riab · 15/07/2006 10:30

Okay I have two questions/ problems.
If you have started CC but then kid gets ill do you continue or give it a break? littleun has a bad cold (again) and has had 3 awful nights sleep

I have been doing the reassurance thing for 2 mins or until his screams go from hysterical to quieter muttering, but about half the time he ends up flaling asleep when i'm in the room! (yes i know it sounds like I'm staying too long but honestly he goes from all out screams to fast asleep in two gulps!) isn't that teaching him to go to sleep with me there?

Okay its 3 not 2! finally how do oyu cope when they are in hysterics? ie got into such a state of terror and upset that they are shaking, screaming until hoarse and if you pick them up they cling onto you and tremble?
