Are there any magic gadgets for co-sleeping on memory foam mattress?

DC 2 is due at the end of January and the original plan was for me to sleep in a 2nd bedroom with the baby on a normal mattress and for DH to sleep in the same bed as DC1.

However, we were thinking of using the 2nd bedroom for DC1 so the new baby, myself and DH can stay in our bedroom and DC1 can have his own space.

Problem is we have a new memory foam mattress and were thinking of getting rid of the normal double bed to get DS a single, but I assume now this is not going to happen and will have to revert to original plan.

As anybody found a safe solution for co-sleeping on a foam mattress?

Our memory foam mattress is a lot firmer and has less roll than a lot of the spring mattresses we've used at hotels! I think in reality the main issue will be over heating rather than baby getting suffocated by a sinking mattress! Sleeping bags are good, and having the bed pushed to an edge so the baby can't roll off and has their own corner will be best arrangement. To be honest we broke all the rules and had dd in the middle sharing a summer duvet with me but I am a light sleeper and was constantly checking that the duvet wasn't above her shoulders. Good luck, and enjoy the snuggles!

Thanks Hairy.

Actually I have a bedside cot and I could get really strict about DD only sleeping within the boundaries of her own mattress but, if her DBro is anything to go by, that may well defeat the whole point of co-sleeping so that I can can get a good rest too...

I honestly don't know if it would help but we've got a sort of pad from ikea that goes on top of the cot mattress (its in ourrarely used as prefers to sleep on mummy at 10 months bedside cot), I don't know if it could be a sort of area for lo to sleep on on the bed?
