Best way to drop 10pm dream feed?

Hi

My dd is turning 7 mo shortly. She's been sleeping through 7pm-6am (apart from during teething episodes!) since about 4.5mo but with a dream feed at 10.30pm. Normally I pick up and feed her and she stays asleep but occasionally she wakes around 10pm for the bottle. I'm pretty sure if I just didn't feed her she would wake up. She's a reflux baby and doesn't take more than about 3oz.

She's now on 3 meals a day including protein etc and I am going back to work in 3 weeks so I'd like to get her sleeping all the way through without the DF!

What advice can u give me? What is the best/ quickest way forward?

Thanks!!!

You won't know for sure if she'll sleep through until you drop the feed, so I would just stop it now then you've got 3 weeks to sort out any wakings before you go back to work.

She doesn't 'need' the milk at that time anymore but is probably used to having it. I was going to suggest dropping it down but it's only 3oz so I'd probably just stop.

When/if she wakes just go in & sit with her hold her hand, shush, put your hand on her back & wait until she goes back to sleep.

I stopped DD1's DF at around 7 months & she slept through with no problems, DD2 was BF until 9 months & now has no milk in the night, I just sit with her until she goes back to sleep if she wakes up.

Good luck!

Agree: just drop it! I was convinced DS would wake up wanting his milk the night we dropped his 10pm dream feed but he didn't! he was 6mo but we started weaning at 5mo. Once he was having protein and puddings (fruit) with 3 meals per day he obviously just didn't need it anymore.

If it makes you feel more confident about it, make sure you give your LO something filling for dinner the first few nights (although I dont think she needs it)...we used to give something like baby pasta and a sauce, or if you're still mainly doing veg and fruit, then maybe mashed avocado and banana, or something oaty (baby porridge cereal?) in the evening when we first dropped that bottle. Although it became clear he didn't need it: I think what they eat over the course of a day (or even week) is more important than in the evening. It's more about total calories in, iyswim.

Good luck, and enjoy having your evenings back!

We went cold turkey. She was fine! A couple of days later she did get her first cold and that slightly messed up her sleep for a week or two but I'm pretty sure that was just the cold not dropping the dream feed. Good luck.
