What options are there if co-sleeping doesn’t make dd sleep?

Dd is 17 mths and has generally been a good sleeper the last few months, self settling mostly if she wakes at night. The last two nights she’s been awake for 3 hours each night, sitting or standing in the cot and crying/screaming ‘Mummy’ (not continuously but every few minutes). I’ve done the usual checks and tried the usual fixes (milk/water/calpol) but to no avail. Patting in cot or taking her out for a cuddle stops her screaming temporarily but then the tiredness kicks in and she starts crying again. Even when she does finally fall back to sleep it’s only for a couple of hours.
This is the point at which most parents seem to co-sleep so everyone can get some rest but every time we’ve tried that dd simply climbs out of bed and runs around. is there anything else we can do?

Dd is exhausted (she’s always been a poor napper, only does one nap of 75 mins) and so are we. I’m out of options and to top it off we’re travelling 250 miles tomorrow to see my terminally ill FiL for 4 days and I’ve no idea how I’m going to keep dd quiet during the night.

Am aware this is probably 18 mth sleep regression (dd’s speech development has just rocketed) but I’m already feeling unable to cope. Dp is already under stress due to his father being ill and we’re both struggling at work.
Anyone tried using a night nanny and booking a hotel room??

Poor you, it sounds awful, especially with poorly FIL as well. DS (same age) also thinks cosleeping is great fun and just pokes me in the eye. Only thing that works for me when he's really unsettled is sleeping on the floor next to his cot so he can see me, but just completely ignore him. Also try calprofen maybe, as if it's teeth I've found that much more effective. Hope she settles down Smile
