What would keep you awake if you were 18 months old?

Apart from mummy's rationing of the chocolate biscuits, what other reasons does my Dd have for the recent, constant nightly waking?

We co slept since she was tiny, but the last couple of months she has gone down easily in her own bed, slept until 4/5am then come in with us until 6ish when we all get up. Lovely.

Last couple of weeks, she sleeps for a few hours, then from 10ish she tosses and turns, cries out in her sleep, very very restless until maybe 3/4ish when she seems to settle for a couple of hours.

She's not ill, I really don't think it's teeth, not too hot/cold, room nice and dark. Could it be nightmares? Anything I'm not thinking of? Any ideas gratefully received. DH and I are now taking shifts at the weekend so we don't turn into zombies.

don't know, but all of my 3 have gone through phases of weird night wakings and wanting to be with me for no obvious reason.,
I'm a path of least resistance kind of a person, so have just gone with it and at some point it's stopped and they've gone back to sleepign through

SpottedDickandCustard · 04/10/2013 20:33

Teething.

Locketjuice · 04/10/2013 20:38

Molars coming in
Nightmares
Just wants a cuddle
Possibly not winding down properly in the evening? (Long shot!)

My 21 MO is the same Hmm

Thanks for your replies.

bundaberg. See, I was wondering if it might be 'just one of those things' and I'll never work it out, and eventually she'll start sleeping again. Well, I'm hoping she will.

Spotted I didn't think it was teething as she usually has horrific nappies when that happens and she hasn't had any recently. Though that said, I'm taking the calpol to bed tonight to see if that helps.

I meant the calpol was for her, not me. Though I'm getting to the stage where I'll try anything.

Sleep regression so brain going mad

Overtired so unsettled sleep. Has she dropped a nap?

Teething

Tummy upset

MrsPennyapple · 04/10/2013 20:43

Have you just put central heating on? A radiator in her room could be making noises as it heats / cools. Or she might be able to hear the boiler firing up. DD always used to wake up when the radiator in her room came on.

RunningOutOfIdeas · 04/10/2013 20:48

DD2 is a little younger than your DD, but when she is teething she has a few nights of really disturbed sleep. She goes to sleep ok and then wakes and cries every 20 minutes from about 9pm.

Lookslikerain · 04/10/2013 21:29

Thanks again for your replies.

Heating not on yet mrspennyapple. It's been so mild we haven't needed it yet so not that.

I think we're just going to have to ride it out. It probably is her teeth, coupled with being overtired because she's sleeping so badly at night.

CreatureRetorts just the term 'sleep regression' makes me shudder and have flashbacks to the dark days of 4 month old DS.

Running that's exactly what's she like! She gives you just long enough to fall asleep, then wakes you again. It's torture!

When DD does this I give her Nurofen. It seems to work better than Calpol.

Rhubarb78 · 04/10/2013 21:38

Learning new things so brain in overdrive, my ds is 19 months and his speech and understanding is really rapidly developing right now so i am blaming that for his restless nights. Also if he doesnt get a good sleep inthe day he struggles at night so i think he is overtired.

Lookslikerain · 04/10/2013 21:47

She isn't really saying much yet so maybe that's what her brain is working on right now. I'm off to bed with my fingers crossed she'll give me a couple of hours before she wakes. Wish me luck!

It's just the right time for the molars and pointy canines to come through.

DS was grumpy for ages before we actually saw a molar, they are so huge they rumble about under the surface for ages.

Poor old DS has his 4 molars and 4 canines coming through at teh same time. We are very tired!!!!
