What age did your LO drop the morning nap?

My little boy seems to have decided today he doesn't want a morning nap. He is 10mo...this seems a bit young to me?

He had a really good sleep last night and didnt wake up till almost 7.30am (which is unheard of, he has always been a 6am kinda guy). But then wasn't interested in a nap at all this morning. Thought he might drop off in buggy when I popped up the high st on a few errands around 11am but nope. Got him home, still seeme happy. Gave an early lunch at 1130 and then put him in his cot at noon. He dropped off by 12.05 without much trouble.

If he only sleeps till 1330 ish (typically I am lucky to get 90 mins for his afternoon nap) do I think try and drag him out from 1.30pm till bedtime??? Even if I do an early bedtime and put him down at 6.30pm I think that is goin to be a 'challenging' late afternoon :-/

Wwyd??

BotBotticelli how did the afternoon go? MY DS is 16mo and has only just dropped his morning nap at 15mo. He did have a few days before then when he refused his morning nap. I would have played it by ear and if he got really grumpy put him down for a catnap if needed, if not then an early bed.

DD is only 11 months but I think she has started transitioning to one nap.

She used to sleep for about 90 minutes at 9:30ish, and then the same again at about 2pm but @ around 9 1/2 months she started to refuse the afternoon nap. Also, the first nap was starting later and later, which made it even more difficult to fit in a 2nd one.
We have gradually shortened the morning nap to 30 mins and it's really helped establish a nice long (90min) afternoon nap.

She dropped her third nap at 6months so I wouldn't be surprised if she went to one nap at a young age too. At least we'll be able to do more in the morning!

My DD just turned 14 months and seems to be transitioning to one nap.

What time does he wake up OP? And how is his night sleeping? DD has only just started sleeping through the night.

So he effectively gad an early morning nap tagged on his night sleep if he slept later

My 11mo won't nap more than 30 mins, occasionally will do it twice in a day usually only once :( !

My DS didn't drop his til probably closer to 18 months, but for a while around that timr he would either resist a sleep then or fall asleep as soon as we were in the buggy - or worse, would stay awake all the time we were out on a walk designed to give him a sleep - but would fall asleep the minute before we got home for lunch. Then the afternoon nap was all over the show. Frustrating for a while. I ended up making sure he had a substantial mid morning snack or lunched by 1130.

Thanks guys - the 1 nap experiment was a disaster!!

DS stayed awake from 0730am until 12 noon when I put him down after an 1130am lunch. He slept for 90 mins which is pretty good for him but that meant his afternoon started at 1.30pm and he would NOT take a late afternoon cat nap. So by bedtime he was utterly beside himself with tiredness. Ended up putting him to bed at 6.15pm that night.

Have decided that he is deffo too young to move to 1 nap and am going to keep tryin to give him a little 30 min morning nap for a good while yet.

At the moment he seems to have settled into a pattern of:

0630 wake up
0930 nap for half an hour (and I wake him up at 10 anyway to go out)
1330 nap for an hour, 90 mins on a good day
1845 bed, straight to sleep

I think/hope that once he drops the morning nap he will have a longer 2 hour nap from 12 noon till 2 ish. But he will be at nursery then so it's kind of up to them!!

Hi again bot - I could have written your last post!

We tried one nap today too: up at 7:30, not tired at all around 10:30 so we went for a walk, did an early lunch at 11:30, quick milk feed at 11:50 and to bed at 12 noon. She slept from 12:20 until 1:40 but woke up crying. She did settle well for bed at 7pm but I suspect it'll catch up on her tomorrow.
They like to keep us guessing don't they?!

LO dropped morning nap around 9 months. Now 17 months he's pretty much dropped the other one too. Unless we go driving.

Weeps.

kalidasa · 08/10/2013 12:37

DS is only 10 months and usually has either only one longish nap (longish for him - e.g. an hour or so) or two short ones (30 mins each). He hardly ever has three any more unless he has woken up v. early or had an even-worse-than-usual night.

But he has always slept weirdly little, he has basically never slept much more than 12 hours out of 24 since he was born. Our childminder is always complaining about it, I asked her once if she thought it was normal and she said NO very firmly!!
