My baby will not allow this. At all. I have to stand/sit and rock for hours every night. The second he is even lowered from my arms, let alone laid down in his cot, he starts to cry.
Help me. Save my sanity.
He is 4mo, breastfed, waking 3-4 times a night to feed. It's taking over an hour to settle him every time

4 months is very little still. Most bf babies will need to feed in the night until 6 months.

I'll admit I'm currently taking the easy route of feeding to sleep as we all get more sleep that way. I'm not going to try self settling until she's in her own room in a few weeks time.

I think they say to not try before 6 months because they're still so little? My DD is 11 months old and still gets fed to sleep! Do what u can to make it easier on yourself Grin

I agree completely with blood socks.

Yeah, it's bollocks said to make you feel like an inadequate parent if you can't do it. Ignore and do what you've got to do, I say.
I did - my DS leant to self settle by himself when he was older. Rocking & feeding to sleep worked until then.

It's not feeding to sleep that is the problem, it's when he feeds and is still awake afterwards. Or if he does fall sleep at the breast the slightest movement will wake him up. That's when the rocking/pacing the floor has to begin. And doesn't seem to stop.
It's driving me crazy.

OP I have a similar problem with 15 week DS. Feed, sound asleep, carefully transfer to cot, wakes up. Same with rocking, however long we rocked for and however sound asleep he seemed to be. We've moved to patting and quiet singing which seems to work better than shhhhh, but I do have to lie him on his side and pat his back between shoulder blades. The next challenge is turning him onto his back without waking but that doesn't seem quite so infuriating somehow.
