Gradual retreat for 9 month old

Ds currently co sleeps and is breastfed to sleep, though the feeding to sleep is working less and less well and putting him to sleep is taking longer and longer. I'm going back to work in 3 weeks and would like him to go to sleep easier and sleep more through the night - as it a i put him in the cot at start of night and then bring him into me so that the night wakings are easier - however I would like less night wakings and my dh would like back in the bed! Has anyone tried gradual retreat as a way of getting baby to sleep? Can this be combined with night weaning? Does anyone have any good links to methods for both?!

There's a thread somewhere on here called something like 'what worked for us' where someone describes using this method with great success. I can't link as on my phone, but it should come up if you search

I can't see it working with a baby. Plus 9 months is sleep regression time anyway.

I went back to work when ds was 9 months. Her sleep didn't really settle down for a while but I remembered it well from her big brother so just rolled with it. She's much better now at 21 months!

We did this at nine months. DD was needing fed to sleep at every wake up: 6-10 times a night, and I was on my knees. We saw a difference by day two, and within about five days she was going down reliably and self settling at night.
It was difficult not to pick her up, but I felt like I was holding her back from good sleep, as well as needing some myself.

She is now 11 months. She's much happier in the day, because she is well rested and has good naps, ditto me!

I found it really effective.
