sleep routine - 2 month old

i have tried to get into a bedtime routine with dd but her long stretch of sleep now seems to be happening early in the evening instead of overnight. Current routine is bed at 7ish, feed (which she has to be woken up for as otherwise she would stay asleep) at midnight and then sleeps for about 3-4 hours. Seems like she likes her long stretch of sleep when she first goes to bed - but don't really feel i should keep her up til 11 ish when i go to bed - any ideas?

Sounds like you're doing bloody well with a two month old.
I think we used to keep ours in the Moses basket downstairs in the evening, wake to feed as we were going up about 10 or 11,then put them in the Moses basket upstairs.
Seems to me you might as well wake to feed at 11 as at midnight. Then all go up.
Some people are going to be pretty at what you've got going already.Well done!

bit worried that if we keep her downstairs until late, she will get used to it and we may be causing problems for the future - would just be so great if she had her long sleep when i did!!

My DD is also 2 months old. She is downstairs cluster feeding (bf) til 10.00 then I sit on the bed with her, swaddle her and feed her til she falls asleep (between 11.00 and 11.30). She was sleeping til 4.00 and we were very but the past week she has been sleeping no more than 3 hours then up for the day .
At the moment I have no time with DH in the evening and he is still sleeping in the spare room but if I put DD down asleep and leave the room she wakes up. I am so knackered and know how you feel but maybe this is just normal for babies this age.

cheese - you're doing well. We did similar with DS. He's now 7.5 months and sleeps 7pm to 6am, right through (touch wood touch wood touch wood!!!)

oh my god - last night she slept from 11.30 til 5.30. Fell asleep with her in our bed bf (she had the duvet over her too up to her waist) Maybe she needs to be a bit warmer at night.

If she could just do this once a week...

How are you getting on cheese? any progress?

threebob · 23/06/2006 07:13

I remember just going to bed at 7.30pm once ds was down so that I got a lovely stretch of sleep in before he woke at 11.30pm. You are doing well to stay up until 11.

How did last night go Cheese?
Emma, well done! You'll be full of the joys today then?

Cheese, none of mine got used to staying downstairs because they are too young to know where they are,as they got ready to drop a feed I made sure that the 11 pm one was first to go,in that I woke them bit earlier for the last one,10.30,10,9.30 etc. So,eventually they are going to bed earlier than you,and the 11 and early evening one kind of merge at 8ish.Just keep putting them up after the last feed.
Of course going to bed at 7.30 is also a good option, wish I'd thought of it.

All of this sounds a bit bossy,so please feel free to ignore it.

We have a 13 week old that we put to bed at 7 ish. He (fingers crossed) now sleeps from 7 to 7 with a feed when we go to bed. He first started having his long stretch of sleep for the first half of the night as well, from about 6 weeks onwards, but I would say just keep doing what you are doing and it should be fine. Also good to get them to bed early because it means you have a bit of time to yourself. Well done for staying up to 11 btw I'm still off to bed at 9.30- 10.00 ish ( good way of making sure that hubby does the last feed !)
