Any help to get a decent sleep?

Not sleeping well at mo, have too much on my mind. Not a chance i can 'switch' it off. Its not so much the taking ages to get to sleep that bothers me, its the quality of sleep. Any hunts to get decent sleep that will still make able to hear the boys when they wake in the monring?

have you tried herbal sleeping tablets - boots have a whole range - but if you look at the ingredients they're all pretty much the same. I got boots own brand valerina and I do think it works. Another tip is to try to pre-empt whatever it is ticking over in your head, eg make lists of what you need to remember / what you're going to do the next day / coming week. The theory is that once consignde to paper you don't worry about it. again I think it works.

also Lavendar is good, warm bath with lavendar oil, not mn-ing just before you get into bed, avoiding caffeine - am sure I'll think of more as i'm a crap sleeper too. If all else fails warm milk with a dash of whiskey does the trick!

My only thought is to have a serious wind down before bed. Perhaps watch some TV, have a bath, read a book in bed etc first. If you have less on your mind when you fall asleep then you're likely to have better sleep. You could also try some horlicks or similar. Also, try to keep cool in bed. I find if I'm hot, I have disturbed sleep (well, more disturbed than usual!) and weird dreams. I also seem to have a lot of dozing and that "in between sleep and awake" time if I'm too warm.

If you need help to get to sleep, then I would suggest breathing in, count 1, breathe out. breathe in, count 2, breathe out etc etc. When you get to 10, start over at 1 again. if you find you drift and forget what number you're on (that's good!) start at 1 again. Visualise each number as you count it to yourself so that (at least to start with) you're not thinking about anything else other than the number and counting. Works for me anyway.

night night sleep tight Smile

Hiya. I have been struggling awfully to sleep of late to. I am moving house, changing my job and have been in hospital for surgical treatment, and it has been hell!!
i saw my GP and was given some sleeping pills which are brill, cos they help me 'switch off' but I still wake when Sam needs me, and dont feel hung over in the morning. Mine are called Diazepam. I only use em 2 nights in a row, and then have 3 nights off, so not having to have every night either. I feel so much better for it, as even if DS wakes me at 2.30 am I go back to sleep within minutes afetr wards instead of tossing and turning for hours afterwards.
