When a good bedtime goes bad?

Hi all

We have had a fab routine with DS for months and months now, and since about 10 months old, he has gone to bed awake and happy between 7-7.30 and dropped off to sleep happily on his own. Prior to this he was fed or cuddled to sleep, but shrugged that off on his own accord which was lovely.

For the last week or so it has all gone wrong, and he is refusing to go to sleep. He doesnt seem in pain, although I cracked and gave calpol 'just in case' 2 nights(made no difference), the temp in his room is fine- on hot nights we have had the air con running, and he has eaten enough....

He isnt screaming as such, just grizzling for about 1hr15-1hr45 each night and then being exhausted in the morning, and we are having to wake him to go to nursery at 7.15 am.

He is rising 16 months. Is this maybe a stage he is going through? I have tried pushing bed time forward half hour, but it made no difference except he was still grizling at 9pm instead of at 8.30.

Also I am not sure whether to keep going in or not. Obviuosly if he was actually CRYING I wouldnt leave him that long but when he is just moaning and shouting, I feel maybe I am betetr staying out of there?

Fab advice anyone?

Maybe should add, he does then fall asleep and sleeps happily either straight through or till about 3am when he may wake for a drink/ milk

i wouldn't go in if I were you. Ds used to do this, and I am convinced that everytime I went in, he thought he was getting up, then would take ages to calm down again. Whn I stoped going in for4 mild grizzling, he went to sleep a lot quicker.
