4 week old straining while sleeping

I have a 4 week old bub. He is really very good but when I put him down for a sleep he goes down like a dream and is quiet for about 30 - 45mins and then starts straining and grunting ever few mins. This is starting to drive me insane as we have bub in the room with us, but I have taken him to the doc and they say this is normal with newborns and just have to ignore it. I wanted another opinion. Any advice ???

yep, perfectly normal
My ds2 did that, straining like he was trying to pass a large object, snuffling and grunting and seemingly unpeturbed by the whole performance.
How we used to chuckle at him. Ho Ho

Aliarna - would you consider putting him in his own room? I put mine in from this age and to be honest, we all got a better night's sleep. They do make a huge amount of noise. Quite normal but for a new mum it's very disturbing and quite distressing. I remember lying awake for ages listening to all the little moans and groans and worrying and then feeling like death in the morning.
If you make sure you can hear him crying in another room, he should be fine.

This is entirely normal for newborns. Wind, poo, general grunting! Noisy little buggers. It calms down (and then starts up again in a few weeks!) And again, and again, ad infinitum. ATM, DS has poo breaks at meals, where he strains and goes purple and looks all offended when DH and I laugh at him.

I am considering putting him in his own room as I cant ignore it and worry to much with him next to me. I am so glad to hear that this is normal as it seemed odd. Its just when the straining is so bad it seemed like he was in pain and ignoring it didnt seem like the right thing to do. Thanks so much I feel more at ease now.
