How will my baby nap when I go back to work?!

I'll be going back to work when dd is 8 months old. At the minute she is 20 weeks and I bf to sleep for naps and at night.

I'm going to start weaning in a few weeks time so hopefully when I go back to work she will eat during the day and bf morning and night, but I'm worried about how she will nap at the gps if she's not being breastfed.

Help, tell me she will be ok!

It will def be ok. Babies have a habit of napping perfectly for others! Try not to have too many sleep associations and DD will adapt

Give yourself some time, she is only 20 weeks, enjoy the cuddles at the moment. when she drops her lunch bf, try to separate bf and Nap. She will be fine, it is hard on the first few days when you introduce the new routine but she will adapt. Good luck

You will likely have a tough few days then she will nap perfectly without the bf. Try not to use any other props instead (e.g in pram, rocking) as it just causes the same problem with another sleep habit.

I still bf 13mo DS to sleep naps and bedtime and he is settling into nursery this week, I'm back to work end of the month. I am going to ask nursery to offer him a sippy cup of warm milk before nap time and I just hope that as long as he's got a full belly and is tired enough, he'll just follow the pack and do what the other babies are doing and just blissfully fall asleep....

Or he just won't nap.

It's a long way off still - at 8mo she will be a different baby!

I didn't think my DD would ever sleep at nursery as we bf before every nap and she slept in a hammock at home, but she was fine. I think they have different routines in a childcare environment. In the end she will be tired and so will sleep eventually.

Thank you. I'm hoping to start sleep training after 6 months to get her to hopefully self settle at night so fingers crossed it will naturally work for naps eventually.

It seems like such a short space of time left though! She's got to learn how to eat and be able to cope without breastfeeding during the day, go in her own room and I've got to go back to work all in the space of 4 months!

I stressed so much when my LO started Nursery as he would only sleep in his cot in the dark with white noise. At nursery they get him to sleep on the sofa. God knows how but they do and he says better then when he's at home so I don't know why I worried so much. They sleep anywhere if they are tired. X

Eats better that should be

I started 1-2 days a week at 7 months. Did a major focus for a couple of weeks before on replacing my breast with dummy and a comforter. It was fine. Good luck.

Mine has been at nursery for a few weeks now (now 10 months old). At home she naps in a dark room with loud white noise, after being breast fed to sleep. At nursery she just goes to sleep in the cot on her own!

I thought she would NEVER sleep at nursery and it did take a few days but she is absolutely fine now.

Nap time shenanigans continue at home, however....
