Swaddling help! Woombie recommendations too

Out 15wk DS has been swaddled for sleep pretty much since birth. He responds really well and drops off pretty quickly.
I have used various swaddle products, the latest one is a Swaddleme which he now manages to get his arms up and under the gap at hip level and pull the whole thing up to free his arms!!
Enough! I thought, after many sleepless nights, time for the Gro bag......wrong! He was so restless and kept waking himself up.
Out of desperation I bought a Woombie (v expensive but was hoping it would be worth it as you can't put a price on a good nights sleep, can you?!). After much excitement when it turned up, turns out he can move his arms around in it too much, bringing them right up to his neck and getting upset that they aren't free! He was really crying :(
So at 11pm tonight I took him out if it and back into his Swaddleme.
I am going to return it, but as it is the WoombieAir, has anyone used their Houdini version and found it better for this reason, which meant to be a former swaddle.
I'm going to add extra velcro to the Swaddleme where he gets his hands free and hope for the best in the meantime!
I am happy to kep on swaddling for now, but need to find a solution that really works - he needs his arms really restraining, almost by his side so there is very little movement allowed...poor thing!

Dd was swaddled with a cuddly sheet until 3 months and then into sleeping bag. The first couple of nights were hard as her arms kept waking her up, by the 3rd night she was sleeping well and just waking for feeds. She was breaking out of the swaddle so thought it was time. It does just take time for them to get used to the sleeping bag. There will be a time you will have to ditch the swaddle due to safety/ growth / strength. We just went for it and told ourselves there's no going back!

Yep, I am thinking as much - will keep swaddling for the immediate future until its no longer possible and the. Go for it with the Gro bag! Thanks x

My DD was swaddled until 7 months and I found the Aden and anais large muslin squares the best. Because of the material, they have a little give but not too much and they are breathable. I swaddled the normal way, although only tightly on the arms and a bit looser on the bottom bit (she liked to kick about but needed her uncontrollable arms tucked in). Once done up, she could move her arms a bit but not enough to get them up and nearly out (iygwim). Also, with practice you get to do it up nice and taut.

They are expensive - about £40 for four from amazon but if you're not bothered about the pattern you can get them in TK Maxx.

If you want to go mega restrictive, you use a swaddling sheet like the one I recommended, but do the arms separately I.e. put them arms 45 degrees from body and then fold sheet over the individual arm and then again over body as normal. My Dd hated it though, it was too much. Good luck!

BTW, I worried she was too old to be swaddled and then she suddenly cried every time I tried to 'do her up'. We then we straight to gro bags with no issues. Your DS will let you know when he's had enough.
