Controlled crying - how long did it take?

Dh and I have decided its time to bite the bullet and do cc with ds who's 13m. His sleep pattern has deteriorated and I need to sort it out.
Anyway I'm off to parents for a few days at half term, so don't think we should do it before we go as I think it will be a waste of time starting then changing his routine.
My question is to you that have done it:
how many nights til you felt you'd cracked it?
how old was your child when you did it?
was it hell at the time?

Thanks a lot

I really hated reading everywhere (from cc proponents) that it takes less than a week because it made us feel we must have something wrong.

Actually, you are doing something wrong - you were/are doing CC on a baby that is WAY WAY WAY too young to be sleep-trained.
You should wait until the baby is AT LEAST six months!!!

keep re reading this post cos genuinely think this is really cruel. amazing that someone thinks its ok to let a tiny baby cry for so long

Sorry - I think people have misunderstood and think that we are trying to get 5 week old dd2 to sleep through the night. That's not correct. We are helping her to learn to settle herself in the evening right after a feed.

Maybe my use of the term CC is wrong. DD2 feeds twice in the night at 10.30pm and 3-4am and is not left to wait for either of these feeds.

Perhaps this changes people's responses ...?

perhaps you need to explain what you mean by cc cos the definition of it ie leaving them to cry for set times is no way suitable for under 6 months. I do hope you duidnt do this at the age you say. They cant understand what you expect of them for one tjing.
