Can't figure out night time sleep issues

DS just turned one last week. We've had night time sleep issues starting about a month old. First six months, it was terrible eczema. We got it under control around the 6-month mark, but sleep didn't improve. He was also underweight, so we continued night feeds. I don't really mind feeding at night, but it's the hours of crying I can't handle. He wants to come out of the crib. We've let him cry it out. He will scream and cry bloody murder for two hours if I let him. I've tried the baby whisperer method of Pick up/Put down to no avail. If I give in and bring him into our bed, he rolls around and starts playing. He's up for at least 2 hours every night...sometimes continuously, sometimes on and off. I'm exhausted beyond belief.

He's always taken great naps. He sleeps on his own during naps and at bedtime. We have had a nice bed time routine since the beginning. I don't rock him or hold him. He's put in the crib awake, and he falls asleep within minutes on his own. I just can't figure out why he won't go back to sleep during the night.

  1. His crib is in our bedroom. We've been planning to move him to his room for the past few months, but because of his constant crying, I don't know if I can handle the night time parade between his room and our's at night.
  1. He takes a pacifier. I don't have to replug him as he can do it himself.
  1. He takes one 4oz bottle at night. Last night was the first time I gave him water in hopes of trying to wean him off, in case the night feed is the culprit.
  1. He takes one two-hour nap during the day.

Please help me figure this out. I'm desperate.

I am no expert but I have read lots of people on this board say that their baby's sleep improved a lot (often much to their surprise) when they moved them to their own room. So that would be the first thing I would try... daunting as I realise that is!

Good luck, hopefully others with more experience will be along soon.
