Anyone's 12 month old only have one nap?

It's been a long hard battle with sleep for us, but it has improved a lot now.

I'm finding that on the days when DS refused an afternoon nap, he falls asleep more easily at bedtime and seems to have fewer night wakings (has just night weaned, BF). He is usually ready for his morning nap soon after 9am, and has a couple of hours. If he has a late afternoon one, he is difficult at bedtime and doesn't go to sleep till 7.30-8ish. Without the nap, he's asleep by 6.30 with no fuss. Either way, he's up around 6.30am.

Any thoughts on this? I'd like to try and push his morning nap to later in the morning, but he's crying for bed at 9.15!

Try waking him from his morning nap/limiting it to only an hour?

At 12 months DS2 was down to one nap - often asleep around DS1's lunchtime, especially if we'd been out - so falling asleep around 11am. IIRC DS1 was having a 9am and mid afternoon nap at that age (very early waker, we knew all the council blokes who unlocked the local park at 7am)

Can he manage from a mid morning nap to bedtime? If so, I'd just go with that, and slowly try and shift the 9.15 to a later time.

He's doing really well Envy

Dropping down to one nap at that age is ok, depends on what the child needs/wants.

I'd say he's a bit 'off' at the moment as he's going through a big stage of development.

True, he is changing dramatically. New words every day, for a start!

I'll work towards edging the nap later and later. He seems to last the afternoon very well. It's the first few hours of the morning that he struggles with.

Personally I would try edging nap later towards eventually after lunch.. But then 6.30 seems early to me and 6.30am very early!

Is it a problem if he sleeps at 8pm? Would he nap x2 in day if so? And would this give a later morning wake?

So eventually 8-8 bed. 1-3 nap. Means you can get out in both morning and afternoon without waiting or him to wake ( if sleeping in cot)

Yes, it is quite a problem if he doesn't sleep till 8pm, as I have DD's bedtime to manage too (nearly 4) and I need an evening! Also, he doesn't sleep in if he goes to sleep late, it's still 6.30 (on a good day!). Not a problem, as DD is an early riser too.
