wondering if any kind soul can help.

my 6mth old, who used to sleep happily till 7 am, or at least 645, is now waking each day at 550.
Ive taken advice (from the wonderful omama and others) to push back the morning nap in order to avoid EW, and have been holding that first nap at 845/9 am for a week now but shes still waking at 545 or 550. am i being impatient?
shes not hungry when she wakes and is happy to stay in cot with me there attempting to resettle until 630.

this little EW phase started about 10 days ago and just before she decided to refuse her afternoon catnap. thats means i cant push back bedtime any later as shes a wreck by 1830. ive failed miserably, despite a lot of effort to restore the 30 minute catnap she was taking around 4 pm. so im trapped in a bit of a vicious circle bcs im sure i should be pushing bedtime back but i cant. any ideas? am i missing sthg obvious?

shes now 10 days short of 6 months and is generally a v happy little girl.
the day is looking a bit like this now

awake 545. up at 630 ish
Eats at 7
nap 845 (by which time shes knackered) to 10/1015 ish
Eats-1055
nap 1215 (or about 2 hours after waking) to about 1330 (maybe i should push this back??)
Eats-1445 or 1500
short bf at 17
bath at 18
1830 bed
Dream Feed 2315

i know i dont have much to complain about as we´re getting a fab long night so I'm getting enough sleep . i just think that as she used to wake at 7 im doing sthg wrong to provoke this new EW phase. help! thanks so much

Babies go through developmental shifts - have a look at the wonder weeks app. iirc, 6 months is a classic time where they're learning a lot of new stuff (how to sit up, getting ready to crawl, getting ready for solids) so I don't think it's anything you are or aren't doing, she's just having a growth spurt.

If you're getting a decent nighttime stint I personally wouldn't change anything. Every time you think you've got them sussed and in a routine they'll change it anyway

I think the combination of light mornings and warm temps are meaning lots of babies are waking early. My sons are no exception. DS2 who is also 6m woke at 5.30am today, partly due to DH getting up for work though. He is quite happy to gurgle about in his cot for a good 45 minutes luckily - til DS1 wakes and barrels into my bedroom at 6.15 Grin

It doesn't seem to matter much what I do with the daytime naps so I've stopped worrying about it for now.

Not much help I know, sorry.

I have no advice but I have two dc (10 years and 13months) and both have always woke at 5/5.30am! Always... doesn't matter what I do re naps etc.

To be honest, I think some dc do just wake up early. Dd was doing it till she was at least about 4 and even now at 10 a lie in for her is 7!

Sorry!

I am 32 and look about 80.

I drink A LOT of coffee.

thanks for support at least! pinkfondantfancy -- thats exactly how i feel - like im playing whack a mole. my problem was daytime napping, so i tried to sort that and then this EW issue popped up. i guess i should just go to bed at 7 pm from time to time!

It's a phrase I am afraid. My ds did this at that age too for about 3 Weeks. Like you I was racking my brains why and considered changing his routine but didn't and eventually he went back to normal.

I did try black out blinds as thought it might be because it's too light very early. Not sure if it made a difference.

Sorry I know not helpful but I think you might just have to see it through until she gets better.

You could just roll with it and do everything early before it gets too hot, then siesta in the middle of the day Wink

youre right pascha. and 6 am is a glorious time of day after all :) -- (im in madrid where its like 30 degrees at 12 and almost 40 by at 3 pm)
