Have been advised by friend to draw on mn wisdom - HELP!
DD(8months)has always been a great sleeper - bed at 6.30pm, slept till 6am. Last 2 weeks, she goes to bed and we go up and down stairs for an hour or two as she starts to cry then laughs like a madchild when we go in. This has all coincided with her refusing milk and is only taking 10 oz ish A DAY! Loves food and eats anything, as long as is not in a bottle. She is then awake on and off all night, mostly wanting to play, throw stuff out of her cot, do general baby olympics, but will not take milk when offered in desperation.
Any ideas? Please?!

Hiya

I know this is pretty old, but is very familiar!!

How much day time sleep over how many naps is she having? We dropped down to 2 * 1hour naps about 6 months and that stopped this.

try milk in a sippy cup instead of a bottle?
teething?

Thank you for replying! Still have same problem and I am getting tireder by the day. DTG - she is down to a 2hr nap in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. Apronstrings - think she is teething, but only chews a cup rather than drinks from it. Is this just a phase do you think? It seems like the more mobile she becomes, the less sleep she needs. Definitely does not take after me!

in my experience all these things come and go in phases - we are on no4 and when things are running smoothly , everyone going to bed etc dh and i laugh and say it wont last!! - but you know the hard phases don't last for ever either. We nearly always find that right when we are getting to the end of our rope the children seem to sense that we mean business and things change for the better somehow. none of mine have really ever been great sleepers - i would probably try putting her to bed a little later - and think about when dinner time is etc. Some times small tweeks can make all the difference. You prob. need to break this habbit now if its been going on for a couple of weeks. A complete change of plan for a couple of days might do this relatively painlessly - but you evening starting at 6.30 maybe goneSad

My DD is like this when teething - she becomes completely manic and just won't sleep! We give her baby Nurofen and that helps her settle.

Hi again

Is it worth shortening her 2 hr sleep a bit, or dropping the 2nd nap? We went from 9-10, 1.00-3.00 to 10-11 and 2-3 for daytimes. Also maybe try moving bedtime 15 mins later?

Oh and on the milk, if its teeth try teething gel 10 mins before bottle, and if it generally not liking milk, maybe try a follow on formula. Sam refused SMA Gold which he had drunk for 3 months suddenly at 6 months, but when offered SMA progress turned back into milk monster!!
