nor sure this is the right place for this

I find it really hard to fall asleep
for a year, maybe more I've used the radio to fall asleep to as the voices help me drift off, dh used to work nights so I had room to myself to do this

now I have the issue that if DC wake me in the night I cannot get back to sleep. cannot use radio trick as dh not working now so it would disturb him and that's not fair

I am a stressed person always and have a lot on but wondering if it was normal never to fall asleep without background noise over and above normal house noise?

thanks

Hi,

I have a 2 year old and have struggled with terrible insomnia since she was born. She has been an appalling sleeper which has been at the root of it. I too have spent months being woken at 2.am and then unable to go back to sleep.

Some of the things I've tried over the past 2 years include taking half a nytol when I'm awoken, going downstairs and watching a news channel and drinking Horlicks, or just taking a swig of liquid calcium as this really does have a sleep inducing effect. It's in Horlicks. I also notice that if I've had little exercise in the day it makes falling back to sleep impossible. I've just gone and bought an exercise bike, they're really cheap on Ebay.

Anyhow you have my sympathy as it's a very lonely place when you're awake and the rest of the world is sleeping.

A nytol and a slug of benylin works for me.

so drugs/ natural remedies is the way forward

Yes ! But I too suffer with anxiety which makes sleeping difficult. I have found over the past 20 years that my sleep only improves when my life is as stress free as possible. This meant for me; plenty of exercise, no toxic people in my life, control over my finances and no stimulants such as alcohol, chocolate, seafood (!) after 5pm.

Good luck.

I use my iPod. I download umpteen free podcasts every week to help me sleep. I put one earphone in so I can still listen for DD.

I must say Radio 4's Weekly Political Review always does the trick Grin

star girl - that's kind of my way but out loud as I'm scared of strangling myself with earphone cords Blush

had to cancel gym at beginning of year due to finances and a little worried about money but working on that
