Hi there all,
New to this Mums net but couldnt think of anywhere else to ask if its normal for my 13 month old to still be waking up every 3/4 hours in the night for bottles. She has now gone on to follow on milk and eating 3 meals a day including bottles so cant figure out why she is still so hungry in the middle of the night..
Some advice Please!!

Maybe it's a habit. Given she's eating well and still having bottles in the day could you try offering water when she wakes up before giving a bottle if she's definitely hungry.

Hi my 14 month old has a 4oz bottle before bed and then usually 1 at 430-5 . However , over the last month she s been having the usual plus waking up between 1-3 for a feed !! We be started to give her a snack before bed and a feed around 11 and that seems to help now as over the last 2 nights its back to just the 430 feed but I don't think that will last .....

Is it just because she associates the milk with going to sleep so when she wakes in the night she needs a bottle to get back to sleep?

Could you try settling her without her bedtime bottle (give it to her before her bath) to see if you could break the association?

My Ds is 15 months and still occasionally has a bottle in the middle of the night. Partly sleep association, partly if he's starving.

I tried watering it down the other night. He let me know in no uncertain terms that that was not acceptable!

Thanks everyone, Going to try to stop feeds when its bed time because yh she seems to think she's needs a bottle to go to sleep. Even if she's just had a big meal or snack. Middle of the night I will change milk to water so hopefully she no longer wants to wake up for it. Wish me luck. Hopefully soon I will get a nights sleep with no interruptions every few hours lol x

If you want to drop the night feeds just stick to your guns and don't give them (offer water instead if you want). She will probably complain very loudly at first, but at 13 months if she is eating and drinking well in the day she doesn't need them. In my experience (3 DC each of whom have had to be persuaded to drop their night feeds) this will go on for about 3 or 4 nights (which may be horrendous), but she will then get the message so definitely worth it in the long run. I always cuddled/rubbed back instead, rather than just leaving them to cry. The most important thing is not to cave in, you must be more stubborn than she is! Hope that helps.

Eating43 attempted to stick to my guns 2nd night in I gave in unfortunatley. She really didnt seem happy with the water and wouldnt settle at all. The only thing i could think of is to change her last feed to SMA milk instead of cow and gate. More then appreciate the advice x

I'm convinced- that's just the way some babies are. I have 12 month old b-g twins. They get exact same food during the day, but DS is sleeping through most of the nights 7-7, but DD needs min one bottle and then a million of cuddles during the night. Oh, and she is up for the day at 5.30! I gave up trying to change that.
One thing that made huge difference in DS sleep pattern- sma toddler milk.

Shes on Growing up milk (cow and gate) but im going to try the Sma toddler milk because the growing up milk doesnt seem to stop her thirst/hunger. Just seems She hates sleeping, She doesnt nap in the day, wakes up so much in the night for bottles and even sometimes after her bottle she'll stay awake just to talk. I really dont know how she does it. lol

How is she during the day? Is she crawling, walking? I noticed, that if the day is bad outside, DT are very grumpy and take a long time to settle in the evening. They are confident walkers now and that has helped to get enough exercise for better sleep.

LittleBearPad · 16/06/2013 21:49

Have you tried her on just cows milk?

Chloe1993 · 21/06/2013 12:12

SMA toddler milk has saved me!!, She goes to bed after a bottle at around 7.30-8 and wakes up about 3 then sleeps till about 7. Feels so good to have some sleep. Ive tried weaning her on to cows milk but she gets very constipated every time she has it :S. Yep crawling, walking and climbing the walls lol
