Do lights&sound type projectors work?

I read on another website they're good for using a timer function I.e. Play for tens minutes&at the end of it dc is asleep. Have you got one, if so, what type is it, does it work&what age is your dc?

Don't want to waste money if they don't help. We already have a seahorse thing that glows& plays classical music/ wave sounds but dc can take or leave it.

We've got the Tomy yellow star projector thing. It's great! My 10 mth old watches it as he dozes off. It really helped teach him to self settle. I can't recommend it enough!

We have the same as melonribena - DS has had it since he was 8 weeks and he loves it!

Well, I got one for a fiver from a second hand baby facebook page so if it does naff all it's not too huge a waste in money!

I suppose it's like anything else, works for some babies not others! I like it because my ds stares at it while dozing off and also it covers background noise that distracts him from sleep!

melonribena · 30/05/2013 20:10

Let us know how you get on Wiggy! Good luck! Oh and although it can be attached to the cot we put ours on the bedside table. Ds wanted to play with it when it was attached to the cot!

Wiggy29 · 30/05/2013 20:56

Well, we have it and I'm impressed so far, though ds was already asleep so we've not tried it on him yet! People we bought it from were super sweet and even put new batteries in for us. I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know... Smile

I found the Tomy yellow star was brilliant.

It's lovely to find something portable that they find so comforting - ours went everywhere with us,way into and out of toddlerhood.

Good luck OP,I hope it does the trick for you.

VerySmallSqueak · 30/05/2013 21:04

melonribena makes a good point.

I never put it on the cot because of fiddle fingers.

Wiggy29 · 30/05/2013 21:17

He's only 3 months so no fear of fiddle fingers but it's duly noted for a few months time. Smile

I'll tell you my routine of what works for us.

As soon as ds gets into his bedroom I dim the lights and put the projector on.
It plays as I put him in his grobag and give him a cuddle.
It plays while I feed him and lay him in his cot.
I hold his hands and quietly shush him.
He watches and listens until he dozes off.
I then leave the room!
The whole process can take a few rotations of ten mins!

Wiggy29 · 30/05/2013 22:43

Ah mel, that sounds like a lovely routine. Do you just do that for evening routine or all naps?

The only difference between naps and bedtime is that he doesn't have a feed so its much quicker!
