v. brief daytime nap question

Sorry about this, I'm still confused about this dropping daytime nap business.

Briefly, dd 15 months, sleeps 2 1.5 hour naps at present, morning and afternoon. When I change it to 1 nap I don't think she'll sleep for 3 hours, if I'm lucky it might be 2, but I suspect it will be her usual 1.5 as that's what's always happened when she has skipped a nap. So is it expected that at this time she drops from around the 13-14 hours sleep a day mark to around 11-12?

At 15mo ds1 and ds2 both had 1 nap a day which usually lasted about 1.5-2hrs. They both slept for a solid 12hrs at night, ds1 occasionally for 13hrs. Havent a clue whether this is more than or less than average, but you may find that dd starts to go to bed a little earlier, try bringing it forward by 15 mins every other day if she struggles to make it through, and then start to wake later, there by catching up on a bit of her lost nap. ds2 is now 21mo and still has a 1hour( I do have to wake him then as he wont go to bed later on) nap at lunchtime and sleeps from 7.30pm-7.15am pretty much every night, give or take the odd illness or tooth!
I'd go with the flow and not worry too much, I'm sure she'll make up for it somewhere if she needs to.

Anyone know if there's a guide that tells you how much sleep they need at particular ages?

as much as you can get them to have while you have a cup of tea and a biscuit with your feet up.

Seriously, though, I personally don't think there is any such thing as 'supposed' to have, it depends on child and their daily activities

Or are you all GF-ers and I have just missed that?

Sorry

My DD is 21 months. She sleeps from about 7:30 to 7am roughly each night and has up to an hour's nap in the afternoon. Some days she skips it altogether but just ends up getting grumoy around 6pm, but wont go to bed earlier. Sometimes at nursery it can be longer - nearly 2 hours.

Richard Ferber's book, "solve your child's sleep problems" (not sure if exact title) gives a guide to how much sleep at what age, of course only approximate, but might help you.

Evita - she may sleep for longer either at night time or nap time. Obviously if she is dropping a nap it means she is needing less sleep but it is more likely that she would drop from 13-14 to 12-13 I would have thought. Also might not be consistent - ie might be more some days than others.

Totally agree with Suzywong. Children are individuals and neglect to read (or follow) the textbooks.

Not show reputable \link{http://kidshealth.org/parent/general/sleep/sleep_prt.htm\this site) is but it gives some rough guidelines as to sleep times at different ages.

Thanks everyone!

zebra, course I know that, I just want to make sure I'm not encouraging her to drop a nap she still needs. At the moment she's still going off for 2 naps a day and is tired without them.
