HV not happy that my 5 month old is sleeping 7pm-7am

ds2 has not been putting on loads of weight recently (between 2 and 4 ounces a week for the last month). Until recently he has been breastfeeding every 2-3 hours through the night which I found exhausting, but for the last week has slept 7pm-7am. My HV reckons that I should wake him up for a feed at 11pm. I on the other hand reckon that is barmy. Do you agree? ds2 feeds lots by day and I now sleep lots by night (PS he has also had a cold for 6 weeks)

Look children don't starve themselves. If he needed that feed he'd be asking for it. Babies grow while they sleep, he's doing a bit of growing, he'll catch up on food later. He might be taking more in his other feeds anyway.

I reckon she's a rare HV, cos she's got children herself, and they woke her up everynight for years. She's just bitter cos your little one is being kind to you.

Let him sleep Bless 'im

Barmy, sleep is as important for growing as food! my dd put in little weight, its not the end of the world, some gain slower than others
This woman is crackers! Next thing it'll be baby rice at midnight

Oh, and since when was 'happy ' in her job description anyway

I'd use F* off. She's completely barmy. In fact, why are you bothering to still go and get ds2 weighed?

(And Gem13 - she obviously hasn't been reading GF, GF only recomends waking a baby at 11pm for a feed if said baby would then wake looking for a feed in the early hours, and only recommends waking a sleeping baby during the day apart from that)

Your theory should be, if he is hungry he will let you know he wants fed! I am glad I had (one of the)sensible HVs who congratulated me on getting my ds twins to sleep 8pm - 7am from 4months. Only it wasn't me, it was them who decided and they still love their sleep.

Can you get a change of HV at all?

I'm not happy either - I'm bloody jealous ! Was told by paed (cos my dd2 is not gaining weight "fast enough" either) that if baby sleeps through the night then baby is content and no I shouldn't be waking to feed.

Wake a 5 monthy old for a night feed definately BARMY! I followed GF's advice of waking for a night feed but only until 3 months, after that dd would sleep through the night without.

Besides I would say between 2-4 oz of weight a week is fine. Can't really say what is normal though as I never took dd to be weighed very often.
