the continuing adventures of ds2 aged almost 15 months

well last night he woke every 40 minutes between 12 and 4 and then at 4 he was up for the day full of the joys of spring. no getting him back to sleep at all.

I didnt go to bed until after 11 as I was busy working. I am sooooooooo fed up and feel like i did many months ago when I was really poorly with it all

sending you a hug Smile
I'm knackered his morning, but all my own fault because we had a Eurovision party last night!

Auntymandy · 21/05/2006 07:54

do you go to him everytime he wakes?

popsycal · 21/05/2006 09:02

yes
otherwise he wakes ds2 and gets so frantic he is almost sick

it is a long running thing unfortunately

misdee · 21/05/2006 09:15

have you tried pick-up/put down or cc? its half term next week, could be a good time to really get cracking on it (not saying you havent, but i mean ds1 wont be a pre-school then and hopefully you can all nap during the day if needed)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/05/2006 09:23

Agree with misdee, is there anyway someone could have DS1 overnight for a few nights so you can really tackle this?

I think i have posted to you before that i spent a night or two standing over DS's cot and patting his back or picking him up to calm him and putting him back down. It was a really really long night but it worked.

popsycal · 21/05/2006 09:26

i am going to try the patting thing/not getting him out of cot thing.
he had quite a good week....going to bed at 7 then not waking until between 1:30 and 3:30 (on a good night) i put him back in his cot then find him in my bed somehow at around 4:30

last night just took the pee though
i need to sort it

popsycal, i think i may have posted on one of your other threads, but u poor thing, thats testing your limits, dont want ot repeat myself so will have a look and see if i posted eslewhere.

when does he nap after that awful early start and for how long and does he nap again in the afternoon?

popsycal · 21/05/2006 09:45

he is asleep now
normally he wakes between 6 and 7 for the day and naps either just before ro just after lunch for between 45 mins and 1 and a half hours

then bed at 6:30-7

I was inspired by VQ, and DH cuddled DS back to sleep when we decided it was time to night-wean. Took 3 nights and DS slept through. We've had a fair few stumbles since - teething, tummy bug, etc. - and I am now patting-shushing when DS wakes. But he's slept through for the last 4 nights [frantically looking for wood to touch] despite a pretty heavy cold.

I'm not bragging - just saying that it is possible. But I'm not sure I could have done it without DH - strongly suspect I would have given in and fed DS. DH really went through it for a few nights but we're all a lot better for it now.

jampots · 21/05/2006 20:17

popsycal - try the ticking clock. It really worked for me and for some of my friends.

littlerach · 21/05/2006 20:21

What's the ticking clock?

jampots · 21/05/2006 20:29

you place a ticking clock in the room with baby which lulls it to sleep and for some reason the rythmic ticking keeps them asleep

jampots · 21/05/2006 20:30

Place a ticking clock in close (but safe) proximity of a crying baby - the rythmic tick tock helps soothe him/ her to sleep. (Jampot)

in sleep tips!

donnacb · 21/05/2006 20:42

oh my you sound just like me. let me know if the tick tock works even on older babies. huge hugs no the feeling mine does exactly the same

popsy, don't know your situation, sorry - but do you have a DP / DH? I've posted on other people's sleep problem threads as have some other MNers who handed over to the DP/DH in the night, and it has worked a treat.

Don't want to blather on cos I don't know if this is possible for you - but my DS was similar to yours for quite a while and I was at the end of my tether...DH and I agreed he would do bedtime and any night wakings for a while....took one or two nights, and DS was sooo different, started not bothering to get up in night at all and we've never looked back...

popsycal · 23/05/2006 19:21

bit of a bone of contention....

if i assume that i am doing it myself then any help is a bonus....

It's easier to do it yourself imo.

The patting thing really worked with DS. If I picked him up he would scream louder and get hysterical.

I know you've posted loads and tried loads of things I'nm sure but you can do it.

Good luck!

popsycal · 26/05/2006 18:22

evry night i say i am going to do this but through a combination of being totally knackered every single night and bringing him inot bed in my sleep i never do it

but I am REALLY REALLT going to try tonight......
