6 week old, dummy question

Hi all
Sorry this topic has probably been posted a million times before!
6 week old DD2. I introduced the dummy a few weeks ago.

Night time - she goes down at 7 after final feed. Doesn't need dummy.

Day time, (appreciate it's still early days but...) I struggle to settle her for all naps, unless we are out and about. She cries, I leave her to cry for a bit then I eventually give her the dummy, then it falls out, then she cries, repeat I put it back, repeat about 20 times!! Argh!Eventually I often get her to sleep by singing to her or rocking her to sleep or rubbing her forehead. When she is fast asleep the dummy falls out finally.

I don't have a problem with using a dummy but I do have a problem having to put the dummy back in over and over and my fear is that eventually she will want it at night too.

Am I worrying over nothing? Any pearls of wisdom? Is this reinserting the dummy over and over just normal behaviour? Should I curb this now and just leave her to cry when I put her down for a nap to avoid creating a rod for my own back or am I over analysing this?!

I don't recall thus problem with DD1 I was pretty good at taking the dummy out before she fell asleep (a la Gina or Baby Whisperer can't remember which). Thus baby cries and cries if I do this!

Thanks!!

She doesn't want/need the dummy. My first child did the same and I thought it was because the dummy had fallen out, it wasn't he didn't like it. He cried and cried for four months. My second child loved the dummy and was completely different. You need to find a different solution for the crying at nap time. Could be colic etc.

I never thought of that. I think you might be onto something though.

This morning I let her cry for 10 mins or so without giving her a dummy she eventually dropped off.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry just to clarify though she does suck for a good few minutes before it falls out she doesn't reject it outright. Think might just continue letting her cry it out so she learns to sooth herself. I also went in and did sssh a few times that worked too. Thanks!

My little girl will be 4 weeks on Monday and she does the same and spits it out! It's not so bad during the day. Some nights she will go down no probs without the dummy, other nights she wants it and plays the spitting it out game for ages- hard work in the middle of the night!!!
