dropping daytime naps (again!)

I wrote a while ago about dropping one of my 15 month dd's daytime naps. She goes down like a dream for her morning sleep, 10.30-12.00, and used to have another hour between 3-4pm but seems to be finding it harder to go to sleep for that one. So I guess the thing to do would be to move the morning one later and drop the afternoon one. But what I wondered is how do I get her to get the total amount of sleep in 1 nap that she currently gets in 2? When she has occasionally not had one or other nap, she doesn't extend the existing one. Or should I put her to bed earlier?

What I did with DS's is gave them their lunch and then got them settled down in bed. They would sleep for 2 or 3 hours no probs, and went from 2 naps to one with no problem at all.

All I would say is try it for a week, see how it goes. I think once she gets in the routine of only going for one nap, her body would adjust and give her the amount of sleep she needs

She may be a little crabby around tea time as she has not slept as long as she needed to, but this should settle down once she gets in her new routine.

Hope this helps, sorry if it's of no use

GF says to drop the morning one to half an hour, so that the afternoon nap is a good one. GF assumes that by 15mths baby's have dropped their morning nap. Mine hasn't either by the way - not most days anyway. After half an hour, wake baby by leaving the door to their room open and letting some light in the room if it is dark and taking the blanket off (if sleeping under a blanket I guess).

i try to stall ds's nap til after lunch
but sometimes if he wakes early he has a late morning nap too and sometimes can't last for the rest of the afternoon
it works best for ds if he can wait til after lunch

My ds is 13mths and i recently tried dropping his morning nap, but found he was to tired to eat his lunch, so now i put him for a sleep at around 10 instead of 1030 and wake him after 45mins. Then he is awake enough for his lunch but still tired enough to need a afternoon nap which is usually from about 1:30 til 2:30.

Thanks guys. So do you think she'd extend her usual 1.5 hours to maybe 2 or even 2.5 or will she just naturally start sleeping less hours in a day? She only just gets 13-14 hours out of 24 at the moment so I'd rather she didn't get less just yet.

any suggestions?

Not really sure. I do remember though that with dd1 I started trying to stop her daytime nap when she was 2ish and then she stated waking in the night, so i reintroduced her daytime nap and problem was solved. It's quite difficult to say really. My dd2 only had an afternoon nap from about 12 mths old but she was a terrible sleeper day and night. Sorry if i'm confusing you now, i'm confusing myself. I think you may just have to experiment for a bit and see which works best.
