2 m/o wriggling up the cot and thrashing - what's going on?

My 9 week old dd swims up her cot at night and out of her blankets, eventually colliding with the bumpers we've put in at the other end to stop her bashing her head!

When she gets there (and sometimes before), she starts to turn her head backwards and around as if she's trying to turn over (which I suppose she might be).

Does anyone else's little one do this? Shifting her back down the cot wakes her up, so there's a visibly finite amount of time every early morning until she wakes herself up and screams, which is a bit frustrating! Her thrashing about is also really noisy, even though she still seems to be asleep.

Is she likely to be uncomfortable? Could it be wind? Is there any hope she'll stop doing it at some point?

Could be wind, could be just a wriggly sleeper. My son is nearly 11 weeks and turns himself sideways in his crib as much as he can. He's in a sleeping bag though so I don't worry about where he ends up.

Have you tried a sleeping bag yet? It might make her feel more secure and maybe she won't swim as much. (or it might not, one thing I know is that you can't tell a 2 month old what to do Wink)

my dd did this, albeit a bit older as i had her in her moses basket for a long time. i solved it by using a sleeping bag and also putting a pillow tightly tucked in under her base sheet so there was a lump in the way at the head of the cot.

Ours does this. I think she has a magnetic head and is being forced to point north.

Update: have tried the sleeping bag again for two nights - just had the worst night since she was really new! Still perfectly able to wiggle to the end of the cot.

Going to try either gripe water or infacol again.
