6 month old waking with stomach pain/gas

Hello all
Subject says it really. My 6 month old has never been a good sleeper. He was really gassy when he was little and used to scream for hours while I did everything I could think of to get the gas out. While I assumed much of it was par for the course, he still has this problem.

He is ebf, just started blw, but this has always been the case. He wakes every 2-3 hours and woften has to fart before he will stop crying. While he will fall asleep on me he is constantly twitching his legs even then and when I try to transfer him, he arches his back which often wakes him. I can only move him comfortably if he's deeply asleep. His tummy is also constantly gurgly especially immediately after a feed.

Any advice from you helpful ladies. I'm exhausted and he's clearly not comfy either Sad

Activia is the yogurt I was thinking of. Had a complete mind blank

I only tried for a few days but will get some more and persevere this time. Anything is worth a shot no matter how much it costs if it takes his pain away and gives me a night's sleep!

Got the drops so will report back. Do you just shake them into the baby's mouth...?

Greenstone · 27/02/2015 09:55

Sorry - dd had hidden the instructions, I found them! Just gave them in a spoon of expressed milk.

My daughter is 18 months and we have her on neocate and she does not eat a single allergen. We have good nights and bad nights still to this day. I recently stopped her Prevacid which oddly has made her a much happier and interactive baby, but we still have some bad nights. I have had her seeing a GI specialist since 7 months and he has scoped her for Eosinophilic esophagitis and that all came back negative... Did anyone ever get an answer?? I'm so desperate as she still only tolerates around 9 foods!!! I too have her on probiotics.

Hi everyone
Feel a bit lost at the moment as my 5 month old has regressed massively with sleeping. She wakes every 1.5-2 hours, usually writhing her legs around and is clearly uncomfortable. I take her nappy off and push her legs up which usually results in a lot of wind. This wakes her up and then I feed her again (EBF) to get her back to sleep and the cycle goes on and on every night. I assumed wind based issues would get easier as she got older but it’s definitely getting worse. I’ve made no changes to my diet but have read a lot that it could be a dairy intolerance. Can this just start or are they born with it? Wondered about trying gaviscon as she was on this for reflux when she was younger but that got better so she hasn’t had it for about 2 months. Any help would be greatly received.

Hi, I was just wondering where you got to with your daughter? I’m having the exact same thing at the moment with my 6 month old, sometimes she will go back to sleep for 20 minutes before the whole process begins again. Also wondering about dairy intolerance (we have only just started weaning with veg) and she is ebf
Thanks

Hi 👋 I don't know if the OP will read this as it's so old. I've got a terribly gassy baby who's EBF. 5 months old. Highly recommend you look up Shel Banks who is a lactation consultant specialising in allergies etc. I'm trialling some diets to help my son. She's on Facebook and I had a virtual consult with her. Good luck.

Did anyone ever find out what was the problem? I feel I could have written these myself - they describe exactly what is going on with my 6MO for the last 2 months. Have cut out dairy, soy and egg but still it’s no better...

Ex23mum · 20/11/2021 09:41

Hi! My daughter is 6 months and I have also cut out all dairy, gluten, soya etc from my diet and still the trapped wind is horrendous! We don’t sleep at all. Did you find anything to help?

TripleA123 · 23/11/2021 09:49

We think we are going through the same thing with our 5 month old. Will buy those Amazon drops but just wondering if anyone had any other advice? Did your LOs grow out of it? If so, what age? Thank you.

Candyyoung · 01/01/2022 18:21

Hey,

Just so you don’t feel alone in this - as I often do - I’m in the exact same position and have had issues with my baby’s stomach since he was born. We went to a private paediatrician and have cut dairy under their advice but the problem is just getting worse and worse. Sometimes he’s up every 15 minutes in the night screaming and it’s so tough for all of us. I’m sorry you’re going through it too but sometimes it’s nice to know that there are other people out there in the same boat. Hope things change for us both soon xx

Hi all, im on here because im having afew nights of what i can only describe as hell with wind.
but i feel (if you’re up for it) i can help with what i use for wind.
it’s a product called windi by frida baby. It has been a godsend!! I was unsure to start with but trust me! This has helped with constipation as well as wind.. if you haven’t heard of it its a small soft silicone tube that has a stopped on for going up the bum. Stopper is so you dont go to far. I put a little oil on the end, give a good belly rub, bike legs then insert like a thermometer. And wow!!! The wind that comes out, you can see how relieved she is. It’s the best thing ever!
