How do you teach a toddler to get in a sleeping bag?

DD is 23 months and sleeps in a sleeping bag. Recently she's started to want to do things for herself, including get in her sleeping bag at night. She can't do it though and I'm struggling to show her how to do it. She follows directions pretty well but invariably the sleeping bag ends up folded over or in the wrong place and she gets really frustrated. Any suggestions?

when you say sleeping bag do you mean a gro bag or an actual adult sleeping bag?

minipie · 09/03/2013 14:16

sorry, should say adult style sleeping bag.

Sorry, gro bag style so arms need to be in holes.

Not an expert as ds a lot smaller but an idea is there a way to only unzip the bottom then get her to help her pull it over her head like a dress!

that's how I'd do it andcake. maybe easier to start off with a really thin gro bag so it can be scrunched up like a dress (in fact maybe start with a dress and then immediately do a gro bag so she gets that it's the same method)? the thicker gro bags would be harder and more likely to fold over I imagine.

Thanks for the ideas but you cant open bottom of the sleeping bag, and zip goes down rather than up so has to be zipped once she's in it and not before. I fear this is the beginning of the end of the sleeping bag Hmm

hmm, I think it would be quite difficult for her to zip it herself once she's in it as she wouldnt be able to see the top of the zip under her armpit.

a possible compromise option would be that she does the first bit herself (poppers up the shoulder bits and puts head through the head hole and one arm through the armhole) and then you do the zipping up?

Minipie I think we have different sleeping bags to you. Ours have no poppers and just one zip down the middle from the neck and stops about 3/4 of the way down. Thanks for your ideas though!

Could you get her a couple of fleecy onesies instead? They might be easier for her to do up herself.

ah ok - I don't think I could put one of those on myself!
