If you use a sleeping bag in the winter, what do you use in the summer?

I cant seem to keep my DD's room cool at the moment. She used to sleep in a sleeping bag, but its far too hot for that.
Last night we put her just in her vest. DH thinks that is okay, I'm not sure whether she'd need a blanket? The temp of the room is 22degrees at the coolest, 27ish at the hottest, I just cant get it any cooler!
What would you do?

you can get v thin cotton grobags for the summer.

We have the lightest weight of grobag and use that for as long as possible. When it gets too hot for that we use shortie pyjamas. When it gets too hot for those, just a vest with a fan on in the room. She might wake up when it gets cooler and need a blanket, there's not much you can do about that. Some disturbed nights ahead for all of us with the heat I think!

thanks for the replies. So you think she'll be okay in just her vest?

Well if she is too cold she will wake up, I guess. I find the only way to see what works is by trial and error.

We use a 0.5 tog sleeping bag in the summer -- when it's properly summer ds just wears that and his nappy, nothing else.

Second the use of the 0.5 tog grobag - it's no thicker than a sheet and ideal if your dd loves the 'tucked in' feeling - we've used them with just a nappy underneath. Also a fan - not blowing directly on dd - just circulating air in the room - we found it ideal with dd1 to put it outside her bedroom door behind a stairgate where there was no chance of her reaching it. Open windows are essential for fresh air but you do need to watch for insects later in the year.

I was wondering about this too. We've a summer weight sleeping bag, and I have just automatically been putting on a vest and sleepsuit.

I was just reckoning that at 24 degrees in the nursery I should leave off the sleepsuit and just go for a vest and sleeping bag.

Not really bothered about DS waking - he does anyway with teething pains at the mo! :(

It's really hard to know how to deal with the heat when you had a winter baby - and I suppose just as tricky for new parents of summer babies to deal with the cold!

Hi

If you look at the www.trulymadlybaby.co.uk website you will find all different grobags - 1.0 tog is perfect for the summer and adjust your baby's clothing underneath as appropriate. If the nursery is around 18 degrees c then you can use a 2.5 tog and just put a vest underneath; this can help if its a little bit temperamental weather wise at this time of the year. Truly Madly Baby also do the grobag egg thermometer which changes colour to tell you the temperature without having to try and read it - i.e. red for too hot, orange for perfect and blue for too cold.

If you want any more info let me know or look at the website. Don't forget that when you wash a grobag, allow for 5% shrinkage if you tumble dry!
