how many nappy changes at night ??? GF baby

DD is a GF baby, and I have reccently managed to get her to sleep through most of the night and I generally wake her between 10:30-12am for her DReamfeed ...

I change her nappy then, but in the morning her nappy is absoloutely soaked ... is this OK ??? I feel bad that she spends half the night with this on. I read from the FERBER book that the nappy should not be so waterlogged in the morning, and if it is then she is drinking too much too late in the night. If I do not give her the 5th eed then she would only be taking 20oz or so during the day, and is only jsut starting a bit of solids in the morning ...

Also, with the formula I have, S26 Gold, it says that DD should be taking 5x 6oz feeds and so she will no way drink the amounts tha tGF says she shld be getting during the day ...

How old is she? well I don't think I can help on this one unless I suggest to get the most absorbent nappies ever. Once she is in solids her milk intake will reduce, but in the mean time, if she is not getting nappy rash and the nappy is not too cold in the morning, I wouldn't worry.

My baby wears the same nappy all night - I only change it is she wakes in the night and it is dirty or wet to the point of leaking. She doesn't seem to care.

Agree its not a problem. I only changed nappies at GF feed times and now hes 2.5 he goes from 7.30 to 7-7.30 in the same one - its soaking in the morning, but doesn't seem to bother him, no nappy rash or anything. I think modern disposables are so good that they keep the baby's skin dry pretty much whatever - if she's sleeping, she's fine!

Same here, only change the nappy if absolutely necessary. If it doesn't bother dd then I wouldn't worry. Is her nappy ok at other times in the day? You could always just check with your GP to make sure everything is ok. Also, if your dd is putting on weight, then don't worry about her not drinking enough, she obviously is. But a check-up with the GP wouldn't go amiss I think.

Hi Cords,
Not sure which book you are referring to but is this advice (drink less before bedtime) meant for young babies? I've heard this advice given for toddlers (my friends two year old) but never for babies. As a baby's main source of nourishment is milk, I'm sure you should not be cutting down on this just because her nappy is full.

I still loosely follow GF and DS has his nappy changed at bathtime, 6.30pm and I don't change it again till I get him up in the morning at 7.30am.

Cords I don't know how old your littl'un is but my DS2 sleeps so soundly that I can change his nappy in his sleep and it doesn't really wake him up - might be worth trying if you think the nappy is so soggy that it is actually going to leak - but otherwise I wouldn't bother.

I always put my dd down to bed with a dry nappy and she will wear that until about 6:30 in the morning. It is soaked but it doesn't matter as she is not walking about and active in it. Active fit seems to be the best nappies for her and we find no probs so far.

If is it dirty which is rarely done during sleep, she will get a clean on but normally I don't disturb her sleep.

I don't think you should reduce feeds because of nappy content but go with the flow and feed on demand. They will only take what is enough and no more.

Agree with everyone else, only change a nappy in the night if it is dirty or distressing the baby. Also agree with the drinks thing being more applicable for toddlers.

tks for the advice ... I might go and check out the NIGHTIME nappies and see if they do them for 4 mths (or 6-8kgs )

Cords,
Bit of a coincidence really, but I just saw a new advert for Pampers baby dry (which I use) and they actually say that they work for up to 12 hours.

So there you go....
