Small house two kids. How to make newborn do things that anger him like sleep without waking toddler?

We have a small house and even with doors shut any noise in our bedroom can be heard in dd's room next door.

I think newborn ds would settle himself to sleep if allowed to cry/grizzle for a few mins. But this would wake dd.

Any ideas how to get round it. Can take Moses basket downstairs for now but it's sleep after night feeds that are problem.

Can you not help him get to sleep without crying?

Well I'm hoping to avoid the feed/ cuddle him to sleep thing we did for two years with daughter.

He's a newborn though, he's very little to cry himself to sleep.

Some babies need to have a little cry before they sleep. They use it to block out stimulation and release tension. My DS2 would only EVER go to sleep afet a couple of minutes crying and I used to feel so guilty but helping him by cuddling, rocking, shushing, trying to feed him etc just made things worse and he'd start arhing his back and pushing us away. Too much stimulation for him so maybe he needs a little cry (obviously I don't mean leaving him for more than 5 minutes). Even now before a nap he still grizzles and cries for a couple of minutes and he's 12 months but he doesn't do it at bedtime anymore thankfully. Anyway, I am blabbing on as usual! Are you sure it would wake DD up? After having DS2, I am amazed what DS1 can sleep though! I think even if it wakes her for a few nights she'll quickly get used to it and her body will adjust and she'll learn to sleep through the noise. I worried about the same thing but now DS2 is 1 and DS1 has only been woken by him once in a whole year.

Yes I I only mean leave him to grizzle a couple of mins when he's on edge of sleep. Dd has been woken by him three times at 3 am and he's only 10 days old.

Hmmm well I can see why it would be worrying you but it's still very early days and there is plenty of time for her to get adjusted to the sound. Does swaddling help to get him to sleep at all? Does he have a dummy? Neither of my Ds's would have them but I tried! I am a fan of anything that reduces crying and stress upon a family! :-)

Like I say though it is still early days and you may find over the next few weeks that he finds it easier to settle without crying and also stops waking up for as many night feeds ((hopefully!!!!)

How long does it take DD to go back to sleep when she gets woken by him?
