5 year-old DD being woken by 3 year-old DD

This is my first post - I need some advice, and I'm sure some of you can help. I've searched the archives and can't find much on this particular situation (forgive me if I just haven't looked in the right places...). Lots of people are familiar with the issues of putting a baby and a toddler in to share the same room, but I can't see much about the issues around slightly older siblings. DD1 complains bitterly in the mornings that she is tired because the little one a) wouldn't go to sleep b) woke up in the night and made a noise c) woke up early and switched the light on, or all three. This morning DD1 was in tears and beside herself. She's usually a happy little girl, who likes school, and isn't generally grumpy about getting up. On nights when they've both slept well DD1 is fine in the morning. We could put them in separate rooms, but they still want to share (even DD1 doesn't want to go in a room without her sister, despite the moaning about being tired). How did any of you deal with this, or similar?

I think it's asking a lot for a 3 year old to be considerate of anyone else. Could you provide some quiet toys/books for DD2 to look at until DD1 wakes up?

Otherwise I think they will just have to learn to live with each other.

I feel for you OP. I think if it were me I'd be trying to sell them both the idea of having their own rooms. Can you make it sound really appealling, get them to choose new bedlinen, posters etc?

Thanks fluffy - I have tried this one, only just this morning, and do you know what DD1 said? 'Can we have bunk beds in here, together?' They are all lovey-dovey with each other this morning, and DD1 won't think of moving. So we'll have to see how this pans out. As Cheddars said, I guess they are just learning to live with each other, and DD1 likes that arrangement overall more than she minds being woken up. We'll see.
