Is a sleep sack, no sleeves enough for baby to sleep in?

7mo been swaddled since birth and now can roll over. He currently gets wrapped in shawl then sleep sack on top. If I take the shawl away will the sleep sack be warm enough? The room is 19-20 degrees celcius overnight. He usually just sleeps in babygro, maybe add a cardigan? The sleepsack is 2.5tog and sleeveless.

Maybe put a vest on under the sleepsuit - you can use long sleeved vests if you feel his arms are getting cold

This is the advice from the grobag website: gro.co.uk/pages/what-to-wear

I tend to keep my 8mo DD a bit warmer in her sleep sack - in a sleepsuit only when the room is 18-20 degrees (which is the temp I try to keep it) and with a vest underneath too when it's colder. When it gets warmer (i.e. later in the year) I'll go back to a long sleeve vest only, then go back to a 1-2 tog bag in the summer.

My LO took quite a while to get used to sleep sacks, but love hers now. I use one for all her naps (1 tog during the day) as it really helps her to settle (think she associates it with sleep time).

Hope this helps!

My 8.5 month old is in a vest (long or short sleeved dependant on weather), a sleepsuit, and gro bag at the moment.

he wears a short sleeve vest under his sleepsuit

My 3mo just has a long sleeved vest under a 2.5 tog bag at 18 degrees-ish. Grobags come with temperature charts so check that.

A short sleeve vest, sleepsuit and a 2.5 tpg bag should be enough in an 18/19° room.

Hi sharond can I just ask what your LO currently wears underneath the shawl and sleep sack arrangement? Also is the shawl lightweight like a muslin? Does the sleep sack stay in place without arms holding it down? My DS is only 16wks and needs swaddling for any chance of sleeping longer than 30 mins. We tried a grobag last week and he hated every single second of it. Plan to try again later, maybe with the one arm transition idea. But a grobag over shawl might solve the problem of him busting out of the swaddle by 5am. I followed the grobag recommendation of long sleeve bodysuit with long sleeve t-shirt and I think he found it a bit too hot as he was a little sweaty after a short while. I also suspected that he really didn't like his legs going free in there. Hmmm.

zoobaby he wears a short sleevevest and babygro then is swaddled in a woollen knitted shawl. The sleepsack stays in place especially with the bulk of his shawl underneath it. Going by the grobag advice he was overdressed! Tonight he has sleeveless vest, pyjamas, light cardigan and sleepbag.

Cheers. Might give it a go with a lighter material :)

I hate to say it but that's too much according to gro bag

At 20 degrees it's a 2.5 tog bag, long sleeved vest

At 18 degrees it's 2.5 tog bag, long sleeved vest, long sleeved top.

Being warmer will help with sleep, but will also increase SIDS risk.. Remember babies can't kick their bag off or wriggle out if they are too warm.

Feel free to disregard and I am aware I am more cautious than most but worth saying. don't mean to scare monger.
