My FF DS is letting me get about 5 hours tops, but in little 1hr/2hr bursts....he is really hard to settle at night in particular (see my other thread - he is basically nocturnal atm).

Interested to hear how little sleep other people have survived on....and when did it get better?? It gets better, right?!

4-5 hrs I'd guess, but mainly because dd (22montbs) was up for the day at 5.30 ish.

I shouldn't comment on if it gets easier, dd is a terrible sleeper (ds still also wakes t least once).

DS seemed to get night/day pretty quickly-we were in hospital for a week which I think helped, there was lots of routine from day 1. However he woke every 2 hours all night for months and months. At 4 weeks we'd put him to bed at 10pm, he'd wake midnight, 2am, 4am, 5am and 6.30am. And feed for around 30 mins each time. So I reckon I would get 4/5 hours sleep per 24. He would never ever nap at home during the day so I never caught up. Was rough!

4 to 5 hours I think. Can't quite remember...he was on the GF routine by that point though which helped!

weegiemum · 03/01/2013 19:23

It's kind of hard to remember as my youngest is 9 now but at a guess - pretty much none! I ebf and we co-slept but on dh side of the bed (I was on ads for pnd so I got them to feed then they slept with him (hes an angel!!)

But at 4 weeks - no we weren't sleeping much. Them's the apples. You just get on and it does change (though with ds - middle child- not till 8 months! The girls were much better sleepers!!)

Ds used to feed every 3 hours like clockwork, feeds took about 30 mins so I probably was getting about 2 hrs actual sleep between them. However, I'm an ace daytime napper so ds & I used to continue the 2hrs sleep/feed routine until about 1pm many days.

I reckon I was sleeping 12 hrs a day at 4 weeks in 2 hr bursts Blush

Second ds, when things will be considerably less flexible (school run - gah!) will be a bit of a shock.

Things settled down a bit though at around 6 weeks iirc when ds was going a couple hours longer at night and I was actually getting up in what normal people call "the morning".

With DS2, now 3yrs old, I used to get 2hrs sleep a night for 18monthsSad I was not great to be around!! I could never sleep in the day either, it was not a great time and even now he wakes some nights for no reason at all.

My other 2DC were great sleepers from around 12 weeksSmile

2-3 hours
Maybe

And maybe an hour during the day with DC1

pettyprudence · 03/01/2013 21:57

about 5 hours broken sleep at night, although until 7 weeks ds (bf) used to like to cluster feed 11pm-2am rather than the conventional 6pm-10pm Hmm so 5 hours was on a good night. DS would wake every 2 hours after the end of his last feed, and each feed took about 45 mins.

By 8 weeks I was gettting about 7 hours broken sleep. By 12 weeks I was getting about 8/9 hours broken but only woken about twice in the night for about 20 mins each time.

I never really napped in the day time with DS because although he was a frequent napper it was only 30mins at a time plus I was out for coffee/groups ALL the time as I would have gone mental home alone with hims
