Our DD is 1 on Sunday and we are still having trouble with her sleep routine. After her bath its bottle then into bed around 7.30. (she is in her own room)I sit in the room by the door until she is settled and then leave. During the night she may wake and cry a few times (but this is getting less)My DH and I decided that once we check she is ok and give her the dummy we should leave her to settle on her own. The other night this worked, she only cried for 5 minutes! Last night we did the same thing and she just kept crying, we waited maybe 10 minutes (felt like a lifetime) and DH went in to check her and she scrambled up the side of the cot, he picked her up and she was absolutly sobbing. I felt terrible like we had just abused her. Are we doing the wrong thing ignoring her? Or will this get better Sad

you're doing the right thing in letting her settle on her own, she needs to learn to go to sleep by herself. If she cries more than a few minutes I would just walk in to let her know that mummy's here, stroke her on the cheek or whatever but I wouldn't lift her.
