my 7 month old ds has never slept well. had much teething pain, has one tooth now. He has always woken frequently ,used to be settled easily. Last few weeks waking up crying like colic pain, after a while passing wind through nappy. doesn't have this problem during day just at night . can be awake for 1 hour at a time. he may drop off up to ten times then wake up screaming when still in my arms before eventually settling again. what foods or anything could be causing this.

Sorry - can't really help this but thought I would bump it for you. Have you tried the health section as well? May be some advice there...

Has he just started on cows milk?

am123 · 11/04/2006 07:29

No he had not really been getting cows milk when it started.

Hello
Have you been weaning for long?
When I started Maisey on solids it effected her sleep for a little while, seems everytime I introduce new foods it has an effect, but never during the day!!!
Health visitors reccommend water if they are constipated.
Sorry that's all I've got xx

Am going through exactly the same with my ds who is 7 months. We did CC a couple of weeks ago successfully but last week he started just as your ds has. he has one tooth too and passing loads of wind, arching back etc looking like in real pain. Waking about six times this way. I am wondering if its since we introduced chicken and meat. have you tried meat yet am123 ?

this sounds so much like my dd, shes 2 now, but this started with her at 7 months, when she starting eating soilds. in her case it is food intolerances. we cut dairy and it made no difference. so we tried wheat, that helped then we cut all gluten products and she was so much better. lastly we cut out eggs and potatoes and she is symptom free. it was a horrid time, always happened at night, which is why i suspected a digestive problem that got worse when laying down.

Are you giving him 'windy' foods at tea time, like lentils or beans? My 7month old gets terrible wind from lentils so I only give him them at lunchtimes not to disturb his sleep.

am123 · 18/04/2006 19:51

yes he does get meat. I don't give him much lentils or beans at tea time. I am going to try colocynth granules tonight. He has even been waking at 5.30am with wind. Last milk feed 7pm night before. Dr has dismissed food intolerance but i am not so sure.

my doctor dismissed food intolerance too. i changed gp and was immediately referred to the hospital peadiatrician. my dd def has intolerances so i knew the orginal gp was fobbing us off. If you're not happy, ask for a second opinion or a referral.

We've cut out wheat and meat for the last two days. Still waking but a little less and not quite as distressed. We're going to reintroduce slowly over next few weeks to see what happens. Smile

if you really do think cutting some foods out is making a difference, go back to your gp and ask for a refferal to a specialist, food intolerance is often dismissed especially in babies but is far more common than most gps will recognise
