My ds2 will b 1 nxt wk and for the past week he has been really difficult to settle at night (not helped by his brother but thats not usually too much of a prob). When he eventually settles he wakes at 2:30/3 am screaming and i just don't know what is wrong with him.

last night he cried from 3 am until 5:30 and wouldn't let me hug him! Hes not ill, he didn't want milk/juice, i changed his nappy and his bum wasn't sore, i can't see any teeth although thats not to say that there aren't any coming thru.

We do live close to 2 trainlines and if a train goes past it rattles the firein their room but it has never woken him before. I just don't understand and feel so helpless (and tired) he doesn't sleep much in teh day at the moment because we have builders next door who are very very noisy at the moment

MOM I can sympathise with this, my Dd did a similar thing at a similar age. Don't think I ever got to the bottom of it but a friend did say it may have something to do with separation anxiety - but then that wouldn't explain why he still cries when you hold him. Dd did this for a couple of weeks then settled back to normal so I put it down to teeth even though i couldn't see any breaking through at the time (some did arrive soon after). We also live very close to a train line and I would think, if it hasn't bothered him previously, then he would be used to the noise and this may not be the reason for waking.

Hiya
I would have to guess teeth, Maybe try some calpol/ neurofen/ medised and see if it makes any difference. If it does you can know it is pain or discomfort, if not at least you can cross it off the list
