Has anyone got a baby who always prefers to be in an upright position?

Our little one was breech and was sitting in her mums tum very happily. From birth she was always happier when held upright. When she has been ill or fretful we have held her upright against our shoulders. Now she is 4 months, she likes to be held facing forward, upright, over or arm, her back to our front, and happily falls asleep on an evening (10-11 pm!) in this position (she is not much of a sleeper). When you lie her across your lap she is forever pulling up like she is afraid of missing something.

Has anyone else got a baby that prefers to be upright? Are they a poor sleeper?

Not a baby anymore, but DD always prefered to be upright. She never really enjoyed being laid down much and never went in for rolling or crawling much. She sat unaided pretty early, was walking about holding our hand or other stuff from just 5 months and walked relatively early as well.

Have to say that DD was quite a poor sleeper, no idea if related.

I always thought DD was too nosey to lay down!

My two both were. I tilted the cot using tin cans under the feet at the head end.

I also put them to sleep on their side which they much preferred, kept them from rolling on to their fronts by using bolsters in front and behind them.

Always used to worry it was reflux but clearly they were just fussy!

Mine has been standing since birth almost constantly, at 5 months she started sitting stiff as a plank, and she will stand holding the sofa, those are her fave positions! (Those and standing on my knee pressed up against me whilst pulling my hair anyway!)

You could say she's 'poor' but I don't think babies are designed for nighttime sleeping for ages personally lol

Yes dd prefers to be upright. She doesn't roll or crawl (she's 7 months) Just likes to sit or stand on your lap or in her 'exersaucer' American babygym thing borrowed from friend. I suspect she'd like a door bouncer as well. Her legs are really strong and she's been pulling up to standing from 5 1/2 months. She's not a bad sleeper except when she's bunged up with a cold though.

tin cans, VVV? That has got to be the unofficial tip of the day!

My baby preferred being upright. He used to scream in pain when lying down. Was advised to take him to an osteopath for cranial osteopath which helped him a lot (think he was about 4 months old then). He had a very traumatic birth (forceps, ventouse) and had a lot of trauma to his head. The osteopath said he had a lot of pressure in his head, especially on 1 side. He was a very poor sleeper. Sleeping also improved after osteopathy, but he is still not a great sleeper even now (13 months).

My little one is 3 months and from the start was a poor sleeper. I would put her into her cot and no way would she sleep. My mother inlaw suggested putting a pillow under her matress to prop her up. Hay presto it worked. She now goes into bed in her own room at 8, wakes again at 2, and sleeps till 7.30. Which to me is brill. before that she was not sleeping properly.
Hope this helps.
