Daytime naps at 10 months ... ?

After months and months of struggle I finally got my 10 month old lo into a lovely sleep routine where he would calmly (well, sometimes calmly, sometimes with a bit of protest) go to sleep at about 9am then again after lunch. Only for about 40 mins max, but it was bliss and kept him chirpy most of the time. Now he has worked out just how much fun standing up is and it's all he wants to do. Nights aren't too bad, but in the daytime he gets really tired and grumpy, though later than he used to, and refuses to sleep because there is standing up to do. I try putting him in his cot for a bit of time out to see if he'll sleep but if he does it usually takes a long time and a lot of stroppiness. Anyone got any tips on getting him to nap? Or should I just forget about naps altogether and keep him up? If so, how do I keep him happy?

strap him in the buggy and go for a stroll around the block just before he hits the wall of tiredness

DD (now 12 months) also wanted to stand up in her cot. A nightmare for about a week when she couldn't get back down again. Now when I put her down in her cot and she stands back up, I just close the door and leave her to it. She normally moans for about 5 minutes and then it goes quiet for at least an hour. Try putting one or two fluffy toys in the cot with him. Hopefully he'll sit down to play with them and eventually fall asleep.

I put mine down and leave him. He falls over when he nods off!!!

sorry that might not be funny if you are strugglung!
But I just put him to bed and leave him. I am really lucky though as all mine have been quite good sleepers. The youngest is 18 months and still has 2 to 3 hours sleep in the morning, which is great whilst his big brother is at pre school!

My ds is 9 months (almost 10 months next week actually!) and in the last couple of weeks has learned to stand up. So he also does this at nap/bed time at his cot (while angrily protesting!). At first I don't think he knew how to sit back down, but I started cc and he does eventually go to sleep. I'm still at the early days of cc, and it takes him about 20-30mins for him to finally go to sleep. During the day my ds also catnaps for 30-40mins so to me it doesn't seem worth that effort to scream for so long to nap for so little. Hopefully they will eventually get that fact too (and scream less and nap longer!)

my DD (also 10 mth) has been standing up for a while, despite being in a sleeping bag. I generally go in and put her back down on her side and say 'lie down' (she now knows what this means). Still it takes about 10 times of doing this (in the early stages of cc too) and I think she'll eventually get the message that nuight-time is for sleep. During the day she sleeps 9-9.45am and about 12.30 - 2.30ish. If she doesn't do the full 2 hrs she sometimes needs a small nap a bit later. BUT, she is put into her pram, wrapped up with a dummy and left and she seems to find this quite secure and goes off with no problem. (Good job she's in the pram actually for daytime naps cause the builder doing our loft conversion put his foot through the bedroom ceiling and all the lath and plaster fell on to her cot the other day! Hate to think what would have happened if I'd been putting her down there cause it was naptime!)
