dd1 is waking up earlier and earlier. this morning she was up before 7.

i think it's b/c the sun is coming up earlier.

i can't wait for my blackout curtains to arrive!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/03/2006 09:43

Black out curtains arent working in our house atm.

Must be the dawn chorus so i am waiting for my rifle to arrive Wink

expatinscotland · 21/03/2006 09:43

I have a sneaky feeling they won't be workin here, either, VVV.

Sad
Enid · 21/03/2006 09:45

so is dd2

I need to get her one of those clocks that cod was talking about

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2006 09:47

I sooo need blackout curtains. DD was told at about Christmas (when it was darker) that she had to play in her room until "the lights come on outside" (sunlight)... that was fine until we hit better weather - now the lights go on outside much earlier!!!

Do the clocks changing make mornings darker again or lighter?? (Breastmilk brain just won't function enough to work it out!!!)

Kidstrack2 · 21/03/2006 09:47

mine too between 6.15am and 6.45am for the last 3weeks, i usually have to wake them at 7.15, i know my two are waking early because of the light mornings, they do it at this time every year, but the clocks change at weekend so i will have them back on track then, weird i know but this happens all the time with us when the clocks are about to change

Enid · 21/03/2006 09:48

dd2 has blackout curtains AND blind

but sleeps with her door a bit open and there are no curtains on the window on the landing so she can tell. I feel sorry for her as she genuinely thinks it is morning - hence need for clock

Kidstrack2 · 21/03/2006 09:48

must say although its lighter in the mornings both do have black out blinds, but i think they hear the birds etc in the mornings

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/03/2006 09:50

im having the same.... jess has been up between 5 and 6 for the last few weeks!

roll on clocks changing - we might go bnack to the usual 6-7am!

EvesMama · 21/03/2006 09:52

my dd(almost 3) wakes around 5 in the morning and thats it, she asks if she can go down stairs, go to toilet, have breakfast, watch cartoons..until i despair and get her up!
i have even told her there is a police man patroling our road and when its morning he blows his whistle..did work..for about 2 days!

Kidstrack2 · 21/03/2006 10:15

Evesmamma i try with dd who is 3 in may, that its "sleepyland time still, where everyone is still so sleepy to get out of bed" when she wakes up early, i then put her back into bed till 6.45 then i get up with her

EvesMama · 21/03/2006 10:17

i was considering getting one of those bunny alarm clocks(blooming marvellous i thiink), where they stroke the ears to tell them its time to sleep and the ears ping up when time to get up? or something to that effect??ill try anything at moment, last 3 days have been actually up and about before 6am!

Kidstrack2 · 21/03/2006 10:18

anythings worth a try i reckon

arfissimo · 21/03/2006 11:54

Hah! Weaklings the lot of you. My DD has specialised in 4am starts. Now, after 3.5 years we consider 6am a lie-in. The other day she slept until 8am for the first time in 3.5 years and I woke up with a start, newborn-mum-stylie and thought she was dead. It was a one off though, we're back to 6am!

nowanearlyNicemum · 21/03/2006 12:03

dd's been waking up earlier too - driving us nuts.
when do the clocks go back? I was terrified it was going to make it worse but have just thought about it for a couple of minutes and realised that it will then be darker at 6am - woohoo. Pinning hopes on this now - so when is it?

Kidstrack2 · 21/03/2006 12:07

sunday 1am i think! someone correct me please!

mrsgee · 21/03/2006 13:01

hooray am not the only one!!!!!!!!!!!
have blackout blinds in ds room yet to get them in dd.
she just wants to come in and watch cbeebies and will grump until we put it on,or she wants her brother up to play with him!
the clocks go forward this weekend why on mothers day do we loose an hours sleep, not fairSad
however dh will be doing EVERYTHING so thats ok,lots of chocolateGrin

I have a small light on a timer to indicate to DS that it is time to get up if he wishes. Works on same principle has bunny clock. Started doing this from age 2 and a bit.

claire7676 · 21/03/2006 13:42

Following a suggestion from another mnetter on a different thread, I now have some fairy lights on a digital timer. The theory is that dd learns that no one comes until the fairies light up! The digital timer means that you can gradually push the time back to the time you want. DD is 13 mths and I've only started this recently, but seems succesful so far, shes much more content to stay in her cot, (rather than scream for us to go and get her the second she wakes - our fault, she associates waking in the morning with getting milk!!!) and you hear a little "wow" when they come on - v cute!!

Enid · 21/03/2006 14:14
Shock

lights on timer brilliant idea

will implement this evenign

sarahhal · 21/03/2006 15:26

Hoping to give the fairy lights a go tonight but have an inkling DS will unplug them!!

Do your children still have naps? We have tried cutting out naps, allowing longer naps, earlier nights, later nights, you name it and it's still early wake ups!!! Had a month of 6.30 for no apparant reason but now back to 5.30 - 6.00. I feel as tired today as when DS2 was first born 7 months ago ang both of them weren't sleeping!!!

oliveoil · 21/03/2006 15:29

I told dd1 that unless the hall light was on, it meant bed.

Now she always says 'Is it wake time mummy?' from her room in a really cute nasally toddler voice that I can't resist.

dd2 just screeches until someone appears, but she is only 19 months so I will give her a bit of leeway for now.

Bozza · 21/03/2006 15:32

Make sure that light is a low light so that if children are still asleep it won't wake them - unless they need to be up at that time.

Ds started a few weeks ago, and when I went into his room it was broad daylight. Stuck the black out material back on the window frame and he is back to his normal routine.

But when he was younger he was a specialist 5.30am waker - in the end I just lost my rag and we got a bunny clock and told him that until rabbit woke up he had to stay in bed. Had a few temper tantrums but has worked well in the long run.
