Is it time to move to the big bed?

DS is 16 weeks and currently sleeps in a rocking crib in our room ( wedged tightly so doesn't move when he's throwing himself about ). I want to keep him in with us until 6 months as per the guidelines but I'm starting to think he'd sleep better in his bigger cot bed which wouldn't fit in our room. He's EBF and since about 3 weeks ago has been waking every 2-3 hrs, sometimes more. He generally goes to sleep about 9pm and I get him up about 7am. After he's been fed during the night he usually goes back to sleep fairly easily though as the night wears on it gets harder ( am currently sat on the floor next to him 'shhhhhing', hence why I'm posting at this time! ). When he doesn't want to sleep he gets very active, thrashing about and flinging his arms and legs about. He ends up whacking them on the sides of the cot which I'm sure can't help in getting him to relax! He's also nearly too long for it and kicks the bottom where his feet are.
Is it too soon to put him in his own room? A couple of friends have suggested this for helping to reduce his night wakings as well but I'm not keen. Or am I going to have to move him to the cot bed then spend the next couple of months camped out on the floor in his room? Which won't be comfy for night feeds! ( don't have a posh feeding chair! ) WWYD?

I moved DD1 to her own room at that age, for the same reasons as you. I don't recall her sleeping any better, but I did because she wasn't disturbing me with the fidgeting. I kept DD2 until she was six months because I loved her more because she was a better sleeper anyway, so there wasn't any reason to move her.

When my kids were moved to the cot they went into gro bag type things, which stopped some of the kicking.

He's in the grobags already, good job else he would freeze, no way will he keep a blanket on. Hmm maybe I should just move him, am so tired as even when he is asleep he's noisy and maybe he'd disturb me less. He's awake again now, less than an hour after back to sleep :(

We did this at 12 weeks and it solved the problem of DD waking herself up with the thrashing. Night waking temporarily reduced to just two with quick feed and back to sleep until the next issue set in (rolling).

Should add it also stopped her waking up every time one of us turned over, and stopped her hedgehog snuffling waking us up too!

Hedgehog snuffling! :)
Have also canvassed the opinion of my mummy friends all of whom had their dc's in their own room well before the recommended 6 months and found they slept better as a result ( mothers and babies! ). Hmmm, better get a mattress then and get the curtains up!
