My DS is 1 year this week. First 6 months he wasn't too bad a sleeper and slept from 7-5 not consistently but enough, so I thought we were doing pretty well. When he started weaning it all seemed to go slightly wrong and since then I don't seem to have any consistentcy in how he sleeps.

It has been especially bad the last few weeks but he has had lots of changes - started crawling, childminders, I'm back in work part time etc etc. Once a week he will sleep from 7-6.30 but the rest of the week he can be awake 3 times in the night. This weekend for example he slept 7-7 on the friday (amazing) and then woke 4 times in the night on saturday!!! There weren't any massive differences in naps/daytimes etc.

He used to be really good at going to sleep at 7pm but for th last few weeks he is waking earlier and earlier i.e. 9-10pm. He naps when he is with me twice a day 9am - 1.5hr and 2/3pm 30mins, but at the CM just has one nap.

My question is do babies ever consistently sleep through, should i be sleep training? I don't mind CIO but we live in a flat and have a neighbour that complains so it limits the amount of crying (hence I always seem to be running into him to try and keep him quiet).

I had been bf when we wakes in the night but trying to stop so now my DH settles him the first time he wakes.

What should i do, I just want him to sleep thorugh, any suggestions or should I lower my expectations!

I personally believe a good sleeper is how you make them ... I would ignore your neighbour for now, or even explain you're in the process of 'training' your baby to sleep at nights so there might be some noise for the next week. It really shouldn't take longer than a few nights, providing you are consistent with your 'sleep training' ...

I tried CIO with DS at just over 1 year. It didn't work on him. He cried for 4 hours the first night, five the second, then five the third. He would finally fall asleep then wake up screaming again an hour later. Just so you are aware it won't definately work.

DS is 2.1 now and still sleeps crap! Not much help sorry, will stick around for some advice though.
