2 naps or 1 ??

DS (15 mths) is trying to cut his naps to one which is fine when he wakes at a decent time but when he wakes at 6am it just isn't working as he'll try to go for his main nap about 10.30. What do I do?

Do I put him down for a nap about 9 but only let him have 40/50 mins and then longer in afternoon? What do others do?

On Friday he seemed OK until 11 and then went to sleep for 2.5 hrs so I was really pleased but just the one nap that day seems to have started waking him up early again ...

It's a vicious circle but less naps seems to equal early rising which then means back to 2 naps of should I just accept its 2 naps until he sleeps past 7 (at least)?

What I did was to keep them busy in the morning, playgroup/swimming/park/music group, whatever will keep them occupied and awake and then let them have a nap when they got home.

You could try one sleep cycle of 45 mins early if you want and then 1.5 hours in the afternoon.

early waking means too much sleep in our house, my toddler dropped his morning nap around this age. Try some days with a 1/2hr morning nap and try to keep him going to 11 or 11:30 other days then he should slowly adjust. Most days mine misses his lunch and crashes out at 11:30. I know a baby that used to have his one long nap mid morning and think mine is heading that way! but it's a long afternoon if he's up at lunchtime.
I need some proper routine help - He had a great GF routine but the book stops at 12months!

You sound like you have got it sussed to me and you don't sound like you need a book to tell you what to do natural Smile.

Smile thanks. I loose track sometimes because his 'perfect' routine doesn't fit in with the school+nursery run!

Don't think there is any such thing as a perfect prescription routine anyway. What suits you, your baby and your family life is usually the perfect one Smile

Thanks ladies. After a terrible day of naps (I woke him accidentally during the afternoon I e), we then had a terrible night. The next day 2 good naps and a good night. He's had a couple of settling in sessions at nursery where he's played through the tiredness and then crashed when we got home with a 2/2.5 hr nap (which happened y'day) but last night he woke at 2am!! Not distressed at all just wide awake which was surprising (to say the least) ... All more confusing for them than us I guess eh ...

My ds very quickly moved to one nap when e started nursery - I asked them to help ease us in and they basically took care of it!

My ds was a prolific early waker before he moved to one nap. Hes now sleeping until 8am Shock. That's def more about a growth spurt though. Below is an average day:

7am wake up and milk
8am breakfast and
11.15am a smallish lunch/big snack
11.45 onwards sleep for about 1.5hrs
3pm afternoon tea- at nursery they have sandwiches and cake Grin
6pm supper
7pm bath, bottle, bed and hes usually asleep by about 7.45

Everything slides a bit and today he didn't sleep until 3pm very randomly!?! But loosely that's what it looks like. He's 17 months as only goes I nursery two days a week, I just like to have something to follow tbh.
