Baby Sleeping TOO MUCH at night

My DD needs to feed at night (6 months) as she can't / won't take enough calories during the day. But! She won't dream feed and if I wake her up she's FAR too pissed off to eat.

She's out like a light by 7 and awake at 5.30am.

Have started to keep her up in her car seat napping and then awake etc until 10pm but its not a roaring success. Any ideas?

What makes you think she needs more calories ? Is she losing weight ?

Is she crawling ? Often they can drop down the centiles once they beome more mobile.

She is failing to thrive due to silent reflux... Only takes 15oz during day BUT used to take 10oz at night. She has dropped all the night feeds but won't take solids or up formula intake in day. I've been told to feed her at night but nonplussed. Should not be hard but...

I'm not sure you can force her if she doesn't want it. Maybe offer her smaller feeds more often during the day, and try different solid food on her.

Hopefully someone will come along soon with better advice (mine are now 9 and 11 so a long time ago !).

It's a tricky one isn't it? I was secretly delighted when she started sleeping through but now it's a different story

With reflux night feeding is potentially an issue as they then lie down and suffer.

Can you cluster feed before bed so get a few more into her and ditto in morning as soon as she wakes up? We also found ds wasn't a great eater by day but I couldn't bear the constant waking at night. We found he was more likely to take additional milk by day if he was fed quietly without distractions. So if I was out and about I'd pop him in pram, away from people to feed. And at home I turned off tv etc and fed him v quietly. Annoying when everyone else was catching up on tv during feeds but otherwise I would tear my hair out trying to get food into him by day.

Also, drs aren't allowed to recommend alternate formulas, but it might be worth trying a different one? I have a friend who swore by the cow and gate stuff.

Is she medicated for the reflux?

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 31/08/2012 13:09

Yes she's on Nexium which seems to work OK. She doesn't have the sucking reflex any more which is sort of annoying Grin

I used to be able to put a bottle in her mouth when she was asleep and nom nom nom. Now it's slack jawed drooling.
