Dd currently taking her own sleeping bag off

Dd 18 months is in the process of taking her sleeping bag off. We have never really used blankets and I think if I put one in the cot while she was awake she would have a party. She is dressed warm enough so not too borhered.

How do you deal with a quilt (really stupid question I know). Dd still takes a long time to settle most of the time (she can sometimes run up and down he cot multiple times before lying down) and im sure if she had a quilt or blanket it would extend things.

I really want to get her used to a quilt before the weather gets too cold at night any tips on going from sleeping bag to quilt?

Well we started putting the sleeping bag on back to front to solve that problem Smile

DMM - Do you have sleeping bags with zips and the front or side? Can she undo them even if it is at the side?

Madallie · 28/08/2012 20:22

Oh meant to say, I also have s sleeping bag that I go from Amazon that has a double zip at the front and is very tricky (even for me) to undo and do up (which isn't so great when trying to put DD down quickly and with minimal fuss) but not sure a baby even of 18mo would be able to undo it.

brokenmummy · 28/08/2012 20:24

I'd like to know what to do about this too.
Ds is 14 mo and unpops the poppers on the shoulders and wriggles out of the top. Even when it's cold. He can't unzip yet though, so am getting by using the ones that zip up the front!

DeathMetalMum · 28/08/2012 20:25

The zip is at the front but she is also close to outgrowing this one. So I was thinking of getting rid while it isnt to cold at night.

We are going away in september though and I wanted to wait until after that so will use the back to front method until then. Grin

I put my DD's sleeping bag on inside out - worked a treat. The neck looked a bit too high for comfort when I tried it back to front. PFB? Me?!?! Grin

DeathMetalMum · 28/08/2012 20:28

Its a double zip one. God knows how she manages it, its difficult for me to take of!

My 14 month old takes hers off too and has done for a while, she can already work poppers and zips. I'm always on the look out for ways of stopping her!

When DD1 started escaping from hers, I put a long t shirt on her over the bag so she couldn't reach the poppers or zips so easily. I think that won't work with DD2 as she is extremely determined.

I like the putting it on backwards idea, although most of ours have side zips so would have to get new ones.

At the moment she is sleeping without a sleeping bag too, I sometimes put a blanket on once she has fallen asleep (it gets kicked off fairly shortly)

RandomMess · 28/08/2012 20:39

Other thing I did was use a nappy pin through the end of the zip Grin

Hi there. You could try a cot duvet and see what happens. My DD was a notorious faffer with rolling about and stuff but when I put her under a duvet (only 2 nights ago mind you so the novelty still has time to wear off and I'll be getting her back in a bag!) she stayed where she was and went to sleep straight away - I was totally amazed. If it doesn't work you can always nail her into a bag like everyone has advised. :)

DeathMetalMum · 29/08/2012 20:32

I think the bag has to go. Huge tantrum tonight as she couldnt get it off even though i'm sure she was close to busting the zip with her pulling. She currently has a duvet on the bed but is lying on top Hmm

Not sure if this helps but I read somewhere that you can get duvet clips. Guessing they keep duvet in place. Could maybe check these out!

They are so funny aren't they Smile

I've seen others recommend a single bed duvet put on sideways and tucked in so that it's more difficult to un-tuck. It also means you don't have to buy a cot bed duvet.

I had already bought my cot bed duvet though.

My dd had an almighty tantrum one evening about the same age about using her sleeping bag. She's not used one since. Last winter, we used a fluffy sleepsuit on top of her pyjamas instead of covers. ATM we use a small blanket / cot duvet. The first few times we used a cover (at about 18mo), she woke up cold in the night, but after a couple of nights, it somehow stays more or less where we put it.

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 30/08/2012 21:20

I tuck the duvet across the cot in landscape mode if you get what i mean, so that the ends tuck well under the mattress and keep it in place. Then played lots of games which involve hiding under the duvet to learn to wriggle under.
