Dd is 6weeks old and is a very curious being. The main problem is at 7pm bed time.routine goes something like this-5 feed,6ish bath, more food, bed.problem is we find it very hard to get dd to go to sleep,no matter how tired she is(she's much more interested in looking around at the world, even though we darken her room and don't speak to her).even if we catch her at the first yawn, generally the only way to get her to drop off is to let her lie on me and pat her..lots.If I try putting her in her cot before she's in a very very deep sleep her eyes pop open and we have to start the whole process again.I'd like to be able to finish feeding her,put her down awake in her cot and for her to put herself to sleep.any tips??(Sorry about the long ramble-just starting to get nervous that I'm going to be carrying around a 10kg baby every night in the not too distant future!)

All babies are indeed different, routine or no. My mum bottle fed both me and my younger sister - followed the exact same routine to the letter as was standard advice back in those long ago days. I didn't sleep through the night until I was almost 2. Sis did 12 hours 7-7, from 6 weeks old. Go figure.

My first went 8-6 at 12wks, not every night tho and dd at mo goes 8-1, then wakes again around 3.30amish and then at 6.30am. I am hoping she will go thro at 12 Wks as well, not holding my breath as she may be completely different :0

I second the SIDS guidelines. My baby choked on his own vomit at 6 weeks in his sleep & went into respiratory distress. If I hadnt been there to help him he would be here now...it's really not worth the risk.

Suckeddry, how frightening - thank God you were close by.

This happened with my DD too around 6 weeks, but she was fine. She had reflux and would often spit up in her sleep.

OP please do consider keeping your newborn closer to you at night. It's safer for them and will make your nights a lot easier.

I'd like to be able to finish feeding her,put her down awake in her cot and for her to put herself to sleep Sorry, fairly unrealistic at this age unless you are very, very lucky!
