Toddler & 5 year old Room Sharing Hell...

We've moved our 27month DS in with his big sister. Trouble is it's taking him ages to fall asleep. Bedtime is 7pm in our house, but he's been only dropping off about 9, and therefore so has his sister. Not such a big issue now it's the holidays (though far from ideal), but we HAVE to get this sorted before school starts again... DS still has an hrs nap in pm (which I'd really like to keep as we also have 6wk old) though we make sure he does plenty of activity during the day. He eats well. Nothing else had changed in his routine other than the place his bed is in. HELP!!! It's getting increasingly tricky to deal with such overtired children. We've tried leaving him to get on with it & also going in every time we hear a noise, all to no avail. it's been 10 days now. Once he's asleep he's fine, it's just getting him to stop talking/playing with his blanket/banging his feet against the wall etc... Aaaaarghhh....

My son still has a bed guard. Every time I move it he falls out Grin

Don't look now, but only had to go up to change his nappy about 15 mins after bed tonight... Have 8 wk jabs for baby tomorrow so could all go wrong tomorrow night!!!

That is fantastic!

Ooo poor baby, I always disliked holding them whilst the nurse jabbed them with a needle Sad

Lozario · 29/08/2012 19:00

Bibble hope baby is ok. Husband doing bedtime here tonight - I'm sitting in car outside house having just come back from a pedicure - I don't want their shenanigans spoiling my peaceful mood!

Bibblebobbleparsnip · 29/08/2012 20:55

Haha! Love the lurking Lozario. I plan a pedicure as soon DD back at school. It will be my treat.
Has rained hideously most of the day here so didn't get to take DS out for a run & so skipped his nap. Also went out to see the One Show being filmed in our local park, so came home late. They went straight down, not had to go up at all Grin
Baby's jabs ok, but she was seriously grumpy after. Gave her Calpol, a feed and put her to bed again, seemed to sort her out. Even got a smile later on...

All quiet on the western front.... Grin
Ladies, you have been more than wonderful. Thank you so much.
Think the next thing to tackle may be DS potty training.... Hmm

Ummmm well my son was left until 3.5 years Blush and still poo's his pants! But he is dry at night now! So I am probably the last person to offer advice on potty training Grin

In fact DD wasn't easy to potty train either and wasn't dry at night until only a few months ago.

So glad they settled again for you tonight.

Lozario · 30/08/2012 21:26

We did DS at 27 months - word of warning though, it ballsed up our nights again for a while because he woke for wees in the night rather than wee in his night nappy!!

So glad it's settled for you. We're pretty settled here again thank god, usually dependent on no daytime nap from the older one. Our next challenge is DS starting pre-school sobs, clings to his leg

Bibblebobbleparsnip · 30/08/2012 23:57

Ahhh bless you. DD is just about to go into Y1 and last year skipped happily off into her classroom leaving me a puddle on the playground floor! Not sure about starting PT yet as thought it might mess things up again, but DS has been pleading for "Bob the Builder big boy pants" for over a week now... Might have to go looking for them in town (boooooo!)
DD was a dream to PT, did it at home in a week when she was 2yrs 2 months, only had a few accidents when she got too busy playing and forgot herself. Have a horrid feeling in the pit if my stomach that DS will not be so straight forward...
There's a board for PT, right....? [hopefulface]

My 4 year old DS and 2 year old DD have been sharing a room for a year.

We had a few problems at first, but we were pretty hard line about it. Talking/singing/chatting was OK, but whinging, shouting or arguing was not. We also had zero tolerance on getting out of bed.

After about a month they'd settled down and it's been fine ever since.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 31/08/2012 08:29

Yes there is a potty training topic Smile

You'll be fine if he is that keen. You could throw pants out if soiled and he maybe so devastated he never does it again Wink

Bibblebobbleparsnip · 31/08/2012 23:22

Bought Thomas pants and Superman pants today! (though DS can't say Superman and instead pronounces it "Pooperman". Oh, the irony...) He was v. Excited & tried on a pair before bed- was very upset when we said he had to put a nappy on for bedtime...
Few chats tonight (Think DS was still excited, plus had a sleep this pm, plus had eaten a late tea as had visited a friends new baby...) but then settled well.
What Bliss!
